Best PQ Bluray

i picked up a Denon 2500btci last week and watched 10 movies but im not impressed with the Picture quality. it looked really Grainy on almost all the movies. I have it hooked up to 2808ci->5010fd Kuro . Im not sure why but every time i went to BB i seen Bluray movies and that just looked studding. what player has best PQ im thinking of exchanging it for Pioneer 51fd but they tend to have problems.

Might be some settings that need to be adjusted, either way it might help to share a bit more information as to your connections, player settings, TV settings, etc.

What movies did you get? Some movies on BD look the same, and sometimes worse than the DVD version.

i got Transformers ( looked good at some parts other looked grainy) Kingdom of Haven , Get smart, Polar express, and few other. none of them impressed me .

Take it for what it is worth but this reviewer from AVS thought Kung Fu Panda had great video and audio quality.

Also on the animation front the Pixar Blu-ray movies, Cars and Ratatouille, offer great PQ & SQ.

From what I understand Transformers is one of the best PQ for film based Blu-rays. Like you I did notice some grain in some scenes but overall I felt it was excellent. I've heard that Planet Earth and Baraka are supposed to have great PQ.

Every single movie I have viewed(BR or not) on my new Marantz BD8002 has been stunning, to say the least.

BR is my birthday gift from my wife and i has to be no more than $550 i got Denon 2500 not to happy with it , so I'm thinking about Pioneer 51FD .

Is your TV properly calibrated with a calibration BD disc? By a pro?

Have you tried connecting the HDMI directly to the TV, by passing the receiver to see if that has an effect on the picture?

Is that TV 1080p, I just don't know?
Is the player set up to output 1080p?

Something wrong somewhere as your player's fine and so's your screen.

Time to play with the settings as either the player or the screen is set up wrong.

Some "grain" is intentional and can be inherent to the film used to make the movie. Not all movies will look like you are there in person. Transformers has great overall PQ, if it's looking poor, chances are you need to work on your setup.

I would start one component at a time and recheck the settings to make sure you are passing a full 1080p signal from your player through your avr and to your tv. If your tv hasn't been calibrated, either get it done or if you don't want to spend the money/ don't know how to do it yourself, search for your tv model #'s settings online and use that as a starting point. An improperly setup tv can make the pq look awful. Also, turn off the auto color correction and most the auto picture settings on all components, they cause more problems, IMO, than they fix.

Not exactly. I found PE to be a disappointment, as I think such excellent content like that deserves the best PQ it can get. It definitely did not.

Baraka has raised some contention at other forums, whether due to ringing/halo, EE, and even touches of DNR.

What I will say regarding Baraka is that its a huge improvement from the DVD. Its not reference PQ though, I don't think.

Some more recent PQ viewings I've had recently include the Prestige, Kill Bill 1/2, Underworld 1/2, Man on Fire, Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds...

Older titles given amazing trasnfers: How The West Was Won, Blade Runner, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Cartoons: Ratatouille, Cars, Meet The Robinsons, Surf's Up (grain is intentional!).

Depending on the film, you can have varying levels of grain while still getting as much detail as possible. Once you remove grain, you take away detail, period.

Some displays may pronounce grain more than others. I have believed for the last several years that displays were ahead of the game in comparison to source media.

I now believe the software (bluray) is superior to most displays, including HDTVs, out there.

If you guys saw some of these pics on my light controlled 75 sq screen, you simply would not believe it.

BTW, nosferatu, without knowing anything about the Denon, make sure to buy Panasonic. (Unless you NEED to output 480i from DVD for outboard deinterlacing/scaling).

Planet Earth has great and amazing content, I highly recommend it overall. I think the PQ is overrated. A few scenes have great PQ, but as a whole I was a let down by the PQ, it's good, just not what I was led to believe it'd be.

"Planet Earth" was okay picture quality when it first came out. However, it has been eclipsed by other titles like Apocalypto, Ratatouille, "Galapagos", Kung Fu Panda, Transformers and Shoot 'em Up.
