Best place to get replacement sub

I'm borrowing my dad's Kenwood SW300 - He has had this thing for probably 15 years.. anyway the other night it started making a funny vibration noise. I looked at the woofer and I noticed the foam surround starting to crumble and crack so I figured I would just replace the woofere since everything else is working.

Where is the best place to get a replacement woofer?

The cheapest thing to do would be to replace the surround. There are many companies in the States, which will sell you the kit for $20-25, or which will do it for you for like $50+shipping.

If you are really keen on replacing the whole driver, try Parts Express. They have a good selection of subwoofer speakers.

Very good suggestions. here is a company that may be able to help:

Otherwise, partsXpress is another great option. Kudos to you for the great suggestions! ;);)

Thanks for the replies. I would just get a refoam kit, but what first brought this to my attention is I heard like a vibration sound coming from the sub when I was playing music a little louder than normal The sub was only turned up 1/3 of the way, so I couldn't see how I would have blown the speaker but then I noticed the foam crumbling.

Would this foam crumbling, causing less support make the subwoofer make distorted sound?

I can replace the foam for $25 or get a replacement woofer for $25 to $38 + shipping. Should I just get the replacement woofer to be on the safe side?

This is the reason you don't borrow someones elses old equipment, because if it breaks your responsible!!!! :)

I would at this point just get a replacement woofer if that is all it costs. However, you may prefer to DIY and save some money. Getting good at re-foaming the surround is a helpful skill in this great hobby. If you are up to it my vote is to go for it! Otherwise, the alternative is very affordable. ;);)

Is the replacement woofer as old as the original one? Then you may end up with 2 woofers that need surround replacement.
