.....IrishMCMorgan, welcome to Audioholics....

.....based on the total weight of the three subs you've narrowed it down to, (the first one is a WHOLE 35 lbs. SHIPPING weight), power ""RMS"" of the subs, (that third one advertising 500 watts peak is a joke, it's 150 rms), AND, Buck's previous endorsement of the the middle one, it would be hands-down on the middle one for me, were I going to order one of those three without hearing it first.....

There's only so much you can do with an 8" sub. That's why is bottoms out around 31Hz, which is still quite amazingn for a little guy. I wouldn't recommend it for larger rooms, but it may be perfect for music unless you're into heavy rap. I'll be demoing this unit, as well as everything else SVS has this coming Friday.

For music the Hsu STF-1 is the best on that list but it will not get you down to 25hz.

Hey Guys,

What do any of you know about Cadence speakers? I've been a hometheater fan for 9 yrs but I think I missed them. Are they decent? I'll do a web search. Their speakers look interesting. Thanks.

I got my JBL 12" E250P Brand New & sealed for 232.00 shipped (Best Buy sells it for 473.00) and it has a frequency response that will hit 25hz

They are new to HT, but have been around the car market for years. That's how I got hooked up with them. Their car subs are hard to beat. JL Audio is finally getting in HT, but IMO dropped the ball pricing their units out of reach for a majority of the market.

Here's the Cadence amp removed from the unit. It's massive. The magnet on the woofer itself is 70oz. Nice build quality, too. I think the frequency response would drop even lower than 25Hz if the cabinet size was larger, but it's got great WAF in a compact design.

Great price! I've been looking at that sub for a while. Where did you get it?

I've also considered building my own.

The place I am pretty sure is a authorized dealer of JBL. They also sell Polk, Sony, Harmon Kardon, etc.. But I only believe they are authorized for JBL and JVC. Even if not, its a great price, and you can not go wrong. its electronicsuperstore.com they do have a eBay site, and thats where I got mine. Here is a link

That sounded familiar so I checked. That's where I bought my Yamaha receiver. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

That comes out a little cheaper than deal-stop. It looks like deal-stop has pulled their ebay sales, but are still selling on their website.

You made my day, Brian. Thanks a bunch!

The JBL subs are OK, not great. Still boomy after all these years. I wouldn't bother with a Polk sub if I could avoid it. Since you buy the Dayton bananas, does that mean you are familiar with Parts Express? If so, their 10" sub will easily get you to 25Hz in a typical medium sized room and goes for just $125. Well spoken of for the price. Part#300-632. If you want more output, get two and collocate them in a corner.

Sorry, but surely you knew I would have to disagree.
I do not find the JBL sub boomy at all. Quite the opposite, I do know what boomy sounds like and this is by no mean boomy. I did have a Fosgate that was boomy, also had a car sub with Orion and it was sort-of boomy. The JBL, at least the one I have is quite punchy with fairly tight bass. IMO.

I didn't say they were crap, but they aren't exactly high on the food chain of subs, IMO. What else have you compared them to? They are not as pedestrian as Polk's subs, but they certainly aren't what I'd bring home with me for the price (MSRP), because there are some excellent subs available at around that price that would make the E-250 run and hide. For ~$230 though, it's certainly not a bad choice.

Personally, I'd say just bite the bullet, save a bit more and get an STF-2. I used to have a VTF-2 v1 (older driver and amp) and it was already an excellent sub then, and for just a little more than that, you could get an SVS PB-10 which has similar output up top, though with noticably more extension. Decidedly one of, if not the, best budget sub on the market that you didn't build yourself.

I did not say you said they were crap. I was just pointing out in my opinion what it sounds like to me.

But for the price he surely could not go wrong.
I have not heard the SVS sub yet and do plan on it sometime in the future.
I have heard a Klipsch Sub, as well as a Sunfire. (Sunfire way to expensive)
Also I have heard the JBL E150, and it is more like you say. It is boomy and not very tight at all, as well it distorts at relatively low volumes.
And it would not be one I could recommend.

But once again, the guy wanted a sub in the below 300.00 range and I gave him one that has a MSRP of 499.00 and can be had New from a authorized dealer for 232.00 and IMO it is well worth the money. Yes when I get around to it or rather more money, I may pick-up a SVS sub. But then we are talking a whole new ballpark not only in sound but at 3-4 times the cost. Being the one I am considering is 700.00 and 75.00 shipping.

All you need is a "Y" adapter. Send the same sub pre-out signal to both subs. Note also that you will want to try to have them located together and if you don't have at least an SPL meter and some basic test discs such as Avia, this may not be the best route.

New from a authorized dealer for 232.00 and IMO it is well worth the money.
That's definitely a good deal. I'll keep it in mind.
