Best musical sub for $400?

I am putting together a small 2 channel listening room and was wondering what sub I should get for it.

Small room 12' x 13' x 7' (WxLxH).
Reciever: Yamaha htr 5890
Speakers: Axiom M22ti's
Sub: ?????

My budget is around 400 dollars.

I am looking for the most musical, tightest sub I can get. I would like it to be able to hit 28Hz and above well. And needs to keep up with the M22ti's at near reference levels while not being boomy.

Also big subs have very low WAF in my house. So keep 'em small.

I have been looking at:
Hsu STF-2
&
Outlaw LFM-2

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hsu STF-1 or STF-2!! The -1 is surprisingly potent for an 8 incher and VERY tight. Because of your small room size, it could do the trick for the least money.

The 10" Dayton Titanic MKIII will fit the bill perfect for you. It is a sealed enclosure, so it will be nice and tight. The other options are good also, but for music, I'd go with this one.

Sealed doesn't always mean tight, take my bros sub for example:rolleyes:

Anywho.... From what I've heard, the STF-1 seems good and can hit does to 25hz says RJ and Jaxvon. The Velodyne DLS-R 3500 would also work, and it is quite loud, and goes pretty low (around 28hz maybe). There are many good musical 8inch subs, listen to all you can.

Conservation of energy tells me that this one will do better with music. IMO

How about a distortion graph, that will tell us if it is boomy or tight.

Here is one I think may fit the bill, its dual 12" sealed design should be quite tight.
Very small footprint for a dual 12" Also I have seen it for exactly 399.00
Pinnacle Digital Sub 350/600 Review here http://www.pinnaclespeakers.com/revu_ds350.html

I know one of our members has one, and is very happy with it..
Ah, here he is http://forums.audioholics.com/forums/member.php?u=11438

This is a great deal if it is indeed a true isobarik design. I'd try and listen to one.

Rocket ULW-10 experience?

I am also considering the rocket sub because I primarily listen to music and it has the room correction feature. The smaller enclosure size and wood veneer also give it a higher WAF.
Is there anyone one the forum who can make a recommendation based on experience with this sub rather than specs?

Thanks for all of the Suggestions.

I will definitely check these out.

I couldn't find the pinnacle for the quoted 399 price, but I didn't look very hard yet.

That looks to be a great sub if I can get it in budget (or talk to the wife into it).

I've heard it in the same room with the same front end as my Hsu STF-2 and prefer the ULW-10 for music.

The Rocket ULW-10 looks really nice.

How do you think this would compare to the Pinnacle Digital recommended earlier.

And what exactly does isobarik design mean?

Where did you see the word mentioned? I don't know about isobarik, but isobaric means equal or equivalent measurements. Think of the isobars on meteorlogical maps (e.g. equal atmospheric pressures). An isobaric chamber is one that equalizes pressures of things in it. I'd guess that isobaric design means designing something that has equal measurements of some processes or multiple elements...or is equal to something else. Rocket uses this term how...in their EQ system?

isobarik is refering to the pinnacle digital sub.
but I think that rocket looks like the best deal.
I think that's the one for me.
Has anyone heard anything bad about it?

Saying bad things about the Rockets? Are you kidding? There will be mob lynching of anyone who dares to utter negative comments about the Rockets.

So furry, please correct me if I am mistaken, but was there just a trace of sarcasm to be found in your response, or are you being serious? I am very curious about how Rocket's new 12" sub will be reviewed. It looks good on paper, but that is just paper...
