What is the best speaker for music under $300? I need one that will provide good bass and rich sound quality.

What is your receiver's make and model? Are you going to add surround speakers in the future, or will this be a dedicated two channel setup? You want good bass - does that mean you do not or will not have a separate subwoofer? Just a few areas needing answered on a pretty open ended question.

The Paradigm Atom is probably the best speaker for around $200, But you'll need to buy a seperate subwoofer.

Somebody just reviewed a pair of yamaha NS-555's for about $300.

Pair of these.

Looks like $344.68 with shipping. Might be a little less. Or more. Depends on your address. :)

I think one of the editors here reviewed these speakers at one time and liked them for the price. Said the build quality, looks, and packaging were outstanding. Sound was much better than what you'd expect for a $300 set. I also like the Cerwin Vega's, but personally would prefer a 12" woofer if I wasn't using a sub.

These may be the same speaker with a different name:

Great suggestion, but can he get a pair for under $300?
Well, they sell for $299. Unless they have a free shipping deal going on (which they sometimes do), he'll have to pay shipping, which he would have to do with virtually any net dealer.

Or, he can scour Best Buy to se if they have any but who knows what condition they will be in. At least with AA they are first run stuff.

read the edit notation...

AudioAdvisor Ships for Free

So those athena F-1 could be had for $298, no taxes & no shipping, hard to beat, unless you get the F-2's for $400 but they can no longer be found anywhere. I also heard that Best Buy has the F-1's marked way down, I am going to check my local stores as the F-1 is the only speaker from the Audition Line that I do not have and I want to try 4 floor standers. They have been almost giving Athena speakers away to make room for the changes (cosmetic) they made to the Audition line comming out in two weeks. The Athenas have been selling better than expected and most places have run out of inventory before the updated models have arrived.

My bad. It says right at the bottom of the ad, "pair". I read $299.95 and quantity "1".

For the extra $100 (or less), I'd recommend the F-2's. 2 - 8" woofers will really make a difference. BTW, the Audition line is out. Nothing mentioned at the website about anything new. Do you have a link to their new stuff?

The only thing I could find is the new Athena WS series. Here's a link:

It's kinda like shoes, socks or pants. That's one pair of speakers, not one speaker.

Nothing is universal, guys. Netgeek read the ad correctly.

I was talking specificaly about the Athena speakers at Audioadvisor, not every speaker in the world and every retailer.

Not Klipsch. Not Infinity. Not JBL and not B & W.

I was refering to the Athenas available through AudioAdvisor. You're welcome for the tip and for clarifying the issue.

Jeez.. .try to save a guy a few bucks and you gotta deal with **** 'cause someone doesn't know how to read an ad. Gotta wonder if it's worth it.

I understood. I just linked the B&W because of the 6k each price. Man those things are expensive.

Mark,

I only responded that way because in your one thread you said "read the edit notation," which says something about stupidity. I then admitted "my bad", buy you continued on with "It's kinda like shoes, socks or pants. That's one pair of speakers, not one speaker." Whose slamming who? I pulled up the Athena speakers on a different site, and they were selling for $200 each. You were right, I was wrong. Lets quit bashing each other. You made an excellent suggestion on a great speaker at a great price.

It was never my intent to imply you are stupid. I simply wanted to clarify what seemed to be a misunderstanding.

The edit notation tells why a post was edited. this is unique to each post. This is where I noted the free shipping.

A signature line appears at the bottom of each post. This is entered in one's user profile and I sometimes change it out. Please don't think this was aimed at you. It's been on every one of my posts to everyone for the past several months. Only one other person internalized it ansd we cleared that up quickly.

Well, at least we pointed out the difference between a signature line and an edit notation.

...let's move on...
