Having made numerous cross country drives (Northern VA to Colorado ski areas) I have found that (for me) nothing beats Gordon Lightfoot. There is just something eerie about it. If all you know about him is the Edmund Fitzgerald and Sun Down, you missing a good baritone.

Y'all know cruisin' with the top down requires some funk. James Brown's box set Star Time provides it. The first three discs get you from San Antonio to Dallas and your butt won't be tired 'cause you'll be bouncin' to the beat all the way. Course you may get run over on I-35 by an 18 wheeler, but hey, that's America's Main Street.
