Best movie recommendation sources?

CNET recently had a piece on the top 10 movie recommendation engines news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10200031-2.html from Netflix at #10 to Jinni at #1. (Jinni.com is a new service with, I think, a smart approach to choosing by mood and a handy connection to Netflix.) What’s your take - do you use online recommendations, and if so which?

I use Netflix for rental, and they purport to have a “movies you’ll love” section for people who have rated the films they have rented. Of all the movies on the list, I have either already seen them, or it’s very hit-or-miss how much I really like them.

It’s next to impossible to find another source that sees the subjective nature of movies the same way I do. If I see a preview that piques my interest, I’ll rent the film. As to whether I like it or not is my decision to make after I view it, not because someone else says “you’ll love it”.

Since I am pretty much converted over to Blu-ray, I mainly use Netflix and www.highdefdigest.com I find that Netflix is hit or miss and their catalog isn't as large as I would like in every genre, but it comes up with some good ones. The odd thing is, that I get pretty much the same recommendations no matter how many movies I rate. I have nearly 1000 movies rated and I still get more or less the same ones in recommended.

Ditto:(. The only service I’ve used that has pegged “recommendations” is iTunes. I go on there to buy 2 songs, and end up having to pull back the reigns at 25.

I mostly buy BDs or DVDs if BD isn't available. I get recommendations from Ain't It Cool, High Def Digest and the reviews on AVS Forum. Occasionally I get ideas from the Onion AV Club and Cinematical.
