Looking for a small speakers for my basement setup (family room). Want decent sound for movies and music (more movies than music) that will satisfy the wife. Focus on something that looks nice, sounds good and isn't big.

Obviously I want the biggest sound I can get while staying in these parameters. Going to have in-wall rear speakers so focusing on these for now.

Ideas?

Can’t go wrong with the legendary Paradigm Atom speakers; I have a pair in my bedroom system and they sound great. For a small but potent sub, consider the SVS SB1000, just over a foot squared.

Out of all the small bookshelfs I have heard the most impressive were the PSB Imagine mini's, they have a lot of bm suppliers so you can most likely listen to them locally without too much hassle... I can tell you first hand they are impressive, my brother has them set up with the a pair of parasound mini z amps and they sound fantastic, he has a pair of REL mini subs {z1 maybe?} and you would NOT belive the sound that comes out of this tiny system he has in his dining room, its amazing..

I have heard them in theater setups and they are leaps and bounds better than a lot of highly regarded speakers on the market... You should be able to fin a center and pair of books for around $1000

I would measure where you want to put it and then start looking around at the largest unit you can get away with...
