Hi all,
I'm wondering what the studio series JBL Subwoofer model numbers would be.
I have a Harman/kardon receiver and 2 s26 Jbl Studio speakers and I'm wondering if theres a subwoofer to match that system.
I saw there are powered ones available rated at 400w but thats not what I'm looking for. is there any decent type, like 10 inch studio sub around 200w available? if yes give me model numbers, if no, what other options would I have?
I'm not really looking at serious bass, but enough to give my system extra low end punch and to shake the house a bit :p
Also is there a cheaper one out there that would have be comparable with the jbl Studio?

What are your listening habits? ht vs music??

What size room are you putting this in?

It's not nessasary to match the sub with your other speakers. If your not looking for alot of omph and a cheap sub take a peak at p a r t s e x p r e s s . c o m . They have a cheap 10 and 12" models that aren't to bad for home theater. If you want to step it up a little check out the x-sub from av123.com. I replaced my jbl e250p with 2 of them and MAN ALIvE do they rock. Nice deep extention and very musical all for 199$.

It's all 2 channel music,
I don't want a cheap sounding one.
But I want moderate to high natural sounding bass
If you say they don't have to match?
Do you mean i could use the 400w 12" on a 100w receiver?
do I need to plug in my speakers into sub?
Or do I have the option of leaving them in my receiver?

It has preamp outputs in the back,
but I don't know if they are related to the subwoofer,
the model number is avr 510. are you familiar with it?

510 is a HT receiver, so it will have a sub pre-out. Price range? You don't need to match the brand, and the majority of JBLs subs aren't that great, so...

How about the Dominator D12 for $549 at Onecall? link

It is sealed and sounds pretty decent. I've heard it in a room about that size. Doesn't go extremely low, but should be pretty musical.

There's also the X-sub from www.av123.com for $199.

what do you mean by HT
is there one thats no HT?
what is the difference between ht and not HT?
Why is a sealed Sub better?
Price range is variable, but under $400 new and would probably go with used if possible.

HT meaning multichannel with full processing (5.1). Specifically for stereo there are stereo receivers (H/K 3480) and integrated amps (see PM7200 in my sig for an example), since nothing is wasted on features and functions you don't need like extra channels of amplification, you generally get more for your money with one of these for a 2ch setup.

Sealed sub is often preferred for music because they are typically "tight" and have a clean, punchy sound to them that sort of does well with music. It is not that they are "better" for music, just that some prefer the way they sound with music.

$400 - I'd probably look at the Mirage S12 here.

it is most likely ported ... try looking underneath for the port.
actually, im sure its ported but am not sure where the port is.

i've listened to it, but the room it was in didn't do it justice.

If your aiming for a sub around 500$ then head over to av123.com and take a look at their rocket line. They're some of the most musical subs on the planet with amazing attack and decay (ultra fast response) or get 2 of their x-subs for 400$ which is what I have and let me tell you.... WOW! are they accurate.
