Can you make a list of all the best cds you own or have heard which contains the most extreme bass? The genres I am interested in are hip hop and R n B.

As far as I know, there is nothing to that (r@p but bass and some fool with his pants around his ankles holding a mic in one hand, and making sure he hasn't lost his thing with the other.

What a disgrace to music. What a shame that young people think rap (r@p is cool.

Here is where real bass comes from:

I refer to hip-hop and rap as a type of visual entertainment moreso than actual music. It seems to be more of a combination of noises, samplings, and jestures instead of a cohesive melody. Just my opinion, so don't get bent out of shape over this.

May be. But I am trying to raise a child in the proper manner to be a decent, well dressed, and respectable human being.

Also, being a musician, I have no respect for music without them.

It just p!$$e$ me off to flip through channels and see these fools with a mic looking like they just stepped-out of prison. Not to mention the filth that is coming out of their mouths.

Then, I have to go out in public and hear this booming and cursing coming out of some fools car jacked-up with wheels ten sizes too big.

I don't no about most here, but I have a feeling I am on the lesser side of ignorant.;)

I'm fairly certain you haven't listened to/experienced 100% of all rap and hip-hop out there. Congratulations on judging the entire genre based on the actions of a few or the looks of the garbage that's on the tv. Plenty of rock artists and bands aren't "well dressed and respectable." Plenty of them are into alcohol, sex, illegal drugs, or whatever, and judging all the rest of them by the actions of a few would be just as foolish.

I am into alcohol, sex, and illegal drugs.:p

Rap used to be edgy, but respectable. But today, it's 99.9% (rap. And, just like Lysol, I ain't looking for the other .1%.

Just learned by watching the Young MC video that Flea is playing that bad @$$ bass line in the video, and song. Pretty cool.

Another extreme bassist.

I remember the lead singer from your Jane's Addiction bluray thread used to perform live concerts with his dong hanging out for all to see. Dunno if he was hanging brains too.

From someone who does not own a single rap album (so I am not an authority in the slightest), I do have the impression it's hard to categorize. Whether from rap to hiphop to even R&B. Some of the subject matter can be love stories, or other things not related to killing cops, imbibing drugs, and fornicating with hookers?

For me, sometimes better "rap" reminds me of Bob Dylan, and the famous French songwriters. Almost nothing really in the way of musical content, but instead it's based on the gift of gab; cleverness of words/lyrics. Then, some hiphop doesn't necessarily seem to be offensive at all, but quite danceable and fun, at least to many.

99.9% of what you see on tv and hear on the radio is garbage. The stuff that gets no airplay is where it's at. Any fan of The Roots, MF Doom, Static Selecta, Mos Def, Talib Kwali, Tanya Morgan, etc.. I could go on and on.

Not the best for bass, but A Tribe Called Quest would be some of the more tasteful stuff out there. Agreed that you can't judge the entire genre by what you see on TV. The same applies for, well, every other aspect of life too.

If all you want is bass, see if you can find some of the (now older) Bass Mekanik albums. This DJ produced an album called "v5.0" in 1999 that contained 18 tracks of heavy-bass "music" followed by 80(!) tracks of test tones starting at 20Hz. Amazon has this album in both MP3 download and CD format. Be advised that the MP3 versions of the low-frequency test tones (<40Hz) may not play back properly due to file compression (depending on bitrate). The test tones on CD are excellent quality, however.
