I am about finished building my gameroom and will soon be in the market for a big screen tv. I currently own a Philips 34" HDTV monitor that is in our living room. I would like to move up in size in the gameroom to 60" or bigger. The room layout will allow me to place a sofa or theater chairs approx. 15 feet from the screen. Can anyone give me an idea of what would be the right size and/or too big? Also, I plan on spending no more than $3000.00 give or take for the set. Can anyone point me in the direction of a resonably priced unit and what types of displays are better (e.g. LCD, DLP, LCOS, projection, etc.)?

Thanks

Is front projection an option? Do you have enough light control in the room for it to be a possibility? You can definitely run a 92"+ sized screen with a front projector for well under $3,000. The InFocus SP4805 plus a good permanently mounted screen will run about $2,000 - plus cabling you should be in well under $3K

DLP rocks - LCD rocks - DLP seems to have a slight edge of the two technologies, mostly based upon black level details. I think any future projectors I get will be DLP based. That's just me though.

Anyway - think about it, I have zero suggestions for the more typical rear projection LCD/DLP units. LCoS seems fine, but is not nearly as prevelant.

Both Mitsubishi and Samsung have newer 1080P DLP sets coming out in the next two months. Because of this they have lowered their prices on their 720P DLP 62" and 61" sets respectively. You might be able to get either for $3k and both have terrific pictures. Remember, bigger is better. :D
