It's a pretty loaded question that depends on what you like for sound. I was in the market this spring and liked the Klipsch Reference series. But then listening trials caused listening fatigue from the brightness of their horns. I also listened to and really like Focal. But they are more than $1k. A lengthy search for others ensued.
I ended up with Axiom M60v2 towers and have been very happy with them. I don't get fatigued listening to them and like the balance for music and movies. I also paired them with the Axiom VP150v2 center which I am overjoyed to listen to. Dialogue over the new center makes watching movies much more enjoyable for me. Love that center!
So, out of my searching, here is what I liked. I bought the Axiom M60v2's and am very happy. I really liked the Focal even if I can't remember what model. They just really struck a cord with me but they were outside my budget. If I wasn't married, I'd have bought them but I am so I stuck to the budget. I also listened to some Jamo which I liked but I liked less than the Axiom or Focal's.
Just my opinion.
