Since the different aspects of Pink Floyd are been discussed a bit lately makes me think of my favorite concerts. I dont mean which band played your favorite song, but which concert really gave you an exeptional experience through lighting, sound, actual performance and showmanship.
I think this is a relevant thread to the forum because the point of all our high tech gear is to make us feal we are THERE!!

Def Leppard was the first real concert I saw. Not that I was biased because of that but I enjoy the music anyway and a friend said the lighting and stage production was second only to Pink Floyd. Blew me away.

Tool is an experience you have to live through to believe. It was as much a visual feast as it was a sonic one.

Wish list: Led Zeppelin, Dire Straites, Radio Head, Pink Floyd(soon be there) :)

Clapton - Excellent Concert

I recently saw Eric Clapton and it was one of the best concerts I have seen in many years. (My first concert was Yes and J. Geils in 1971, just to give some perspective.) Clapton is the ultimate showman with perfect timing, GREAT guitar playing and many hits to enjoy. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert, don't miss it!!!

The best concert I've ever been to was in 1970. It was Atlanta Pop Festival. Three days of music, friendship, and partying! Tickets were $15.
I saw Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Rare Earth, John Sebastian, Mountain, Poco, Procol Harem, Ten Years After, and more.........

I missed seeing Grand Funk Railroad, It's A Beautiful Day, Allman Brothers, and others, because I was skinny dipping with about 20,000 other people. That was an experience too. :)

The concert was July 3, 4, & 5, 1970. Since I missed Woodstock in '69, I wasn't gonna miss this one. It was an experience I'll remember my whole life. The night of July 4th, Jimi Hendrix was playing. When he started playing his version of the Star Spangled Banner, the fireworks show started! Talk about great...........! Two months later (Sept. 18), Hendrix was dead.

Wonder why they don't have big festivals like this anymore?

Zz Top Recycler Tour

Considering: music, lighting, sound, stage props, ambience for me it was THE RECYCLER TOUR by ZZ TOP. The guys were dressed up like they worked in a recycling plant, they had a huge tower with a conveyor belt where junk was "recycled" into metal squares, they were all over the place, Billy Gibbons would make his guitar spin in front of him like a propeller, sequenced explosions were timed to the music. The only way to describe it was: a surreal, super-high quality Disney production. I've never seen anything like it. Remember this was ZZ Top's heyday, these guys where the biggest with the biggest production budget.

BTW,the MOST BORING concert, and ironically by one of my fave bands, was NEW ORDER...these poor devils looked like a manequin (except for Hooky!) display in Macy's! I still love their music.

Too many to be sure but one of my favorites was The Who, shortly after Woodstock and Live at Leeds. They pretty much duplicated the Leeds concert, Townsend's feet rarely were on the ground, Keith Moon was alive and completely wild. Great concert. In September this year I got a do-over when the Virgin Festival came to Baltimore and headlined the Who. I was amazed that after all these years, Daltrey and Townsend can still go at it. Pete mostly keeps his feet on the ground these days but his playing hasn't diminished at all. I was mostly surrounded by thousands of teenage kids who were not alive in the Woodstock/Leeds era but knew all the songs and were singing along ("hey man, these old farts can really rock"). By the way, the other bands were anywhere from good to great, most notably the Chili Peppers, who did a lengthy jam and revealed that they are amazing musicians.

Amnesty International. Sting, Peter Gabriel, and U2 were the highlights, and at a time when they were my favorites. Excellent show. It was probably only the 2nd or 3rd show I ever went to, but I never forgot it. Every act was amazing.
