Best choice for ceiling speakers

Hello,

My new home comes with a few rooms prewired for surround sound. The prewiring was done to support ceiling mounted speakers (not ideal but it was not a custom build)

I've gone to several places in town and my options appear to be:

1. Tweeters- Boston Acoustic

2. Home Theater- B&W

3. Anchor Security (they did the prewiring for the builder)- Jamo (Anchor is not an authorized dealer)

4. Bose- impressive song and dance then I checked the online reviews

My inclination would be to avoid the third option as they are not an authorized dealer, so of the remaining viable two, Boston Acoustics or B&W which would be preferable?

Any advise would be appreciated

Here is some hints

I would go with the Jamo, but find a authorized dealer. Boston and B&W are also both great speakers...stay the hell away from Bose....nothing but crap...great marketing dpt. though. Um...how is Anchor selling jamo without being a authorized dealer? Send me their info and i will let Jamo know. By the way..you can go to www.jamo.com and search for an authorized dealer. Hope that helps

Another brand to possibly consider is Niles. I'm running 6 of their DS6.3's in my ceiling and they sound wonderful.

Ceiling speakers

Thanks for all the advice. I called up Jamo today and it turns out that this company is an authorized reseller but is not listed because there is a wholesaler retail middleman involved. The next step is to try to listen to these if at all possible. The speaker that was recommended is the Jamo 660A2. I've listened to the Boston Acoustics and B&W speakers already.

I am in the same situation but have the house prewired for music only. My budget is about $200 a set. My wiring guy uses M&S. Anybody have any experience with these. He says they sound good and the price is very attractive.

I'm no speaker expert but a few things-

First here is the company website

It has a bit more information but not as much as I would have liked. I couldn't find the speaker sensitivity or the speaker materials listed anywhere. I think that this information would be important to know to help judge the quality.

And most important, any chance of being able to listen before buying?

I have another question as well. Is it ok to put in-wall speakers into the ceiling?

The sales rep from one store says no, that they won't flood an area with sound like a ceiling speaker would.

Two other sales reps from different stores have said that it doesn't make a difference.

Anyone here know?

They work fine

Ian, You can use in-wall speaker..they work fine just make sure that the tweeter is towards the wall for reflection. I have installed many Jamo in-wall in the ceiling and they sound wonderful....placement is a little more important if using for a home theater, BUT for general sound through the house there is no problem

They typically use all Niles products- the receiver, speakers etc. I am not sure what type of speaker to get. I can go with the Niles or choose some other brand. How do you like your Nile speakers? Can they handle loud music and base?
