Hi guys,
You are going to be my reference. I want to spend no more than $ 150 in a BR player. Please, advice me which unit can be the best around this price. Sound quality is also important for me.
thanks,
George.

+2 Pana DMP-BD60 (RS$129.99) if you are in the US.

PS3 slim if you are in Canada (C$299 but the game part is worth half of that so it is still cheap if you play game and stream half the time:D). It is also apparently 3-D ready whatever that means, via future FW updates.

Otherwise definitely the Sony BD-S360 if you are in Canada and don't play games. C$149.99 to 179.99 vs C$229.99 to 249.99 for the Pana and you are talking about best cheap right?

be wary of Panasonic Customer Support

Panasonic BD-60, done!
Let me caution you about Panasonic support. I have the DMP-30BD which is not quite two years old. The BD part quit working and after Panasonic sent me the 2.9 current firmware five times over a month and one-half period of time and it still wouldn't work ( normal DVDs play and audio CDs play) they to me I would have to pay to send it in ( $20) and then it would cost me another $100-$120 to fix.

I switch to LG 390BD and it is awesome! ( you can buy cehaper models, but this one streams NetFlix wirelessly from the Internet). It also loads much, much faster than my previous Panasonic, almost as fast as my PS3.

Your experience may vary, but after my horrid experinece with Panasonic Customer Support, they are on my "Do Not buy Again" list.

Peace and Serenity back from another nigth at the cabin,

I did notice that the BD-60 is still a bit slow to load certain discs, but overall I find it a very good player for the price.

My experience with Panasonic products have been stellar, very reliable. My experience with the BD55 blu-ray player has been excellent thus far (a little over a year old). Funny enough I hooked up an 11 year Panasonic VHS player over the weekend for my dad. Works like a charm...lol

I've had a few Panasonics and never had a single issue with them as well, but I can't speak to the capability of their customer service. The thing is, once it is out of warranty, you have to realize that the price to repair a ~$120 player is almost always going to be nearly the price of a new player. If I get ~2yrs out of a $120 piece of gear, I think it did an OK job of paying for itself.

Panasonic BD-60, done!
I've been toying with the idea of getting a Blu-ray player, and liking the Samsung 1600. It's about the same price, with NetFlix. Why would you choose the panny?

+2 for the Sony BD-S360

I bought mine for $149.00 Cdn... and it works really well. Its menu system is straight forward and so easy to use.
