ok everyone i decided to set up a sound system in my livin room. this is only for music 2 channel only. i am looking for the best cd player on the market (budget is wide open) one preference is i want a single cd player, not multi disc players. i want it to be just a stand alone cd player, with the best possible audio quality.

this will need to be matched with a reciever of the same specs meaning that if the cd players DAC is 192/24 bit the reciever has to be up to spec.

thank you for all ur help.

Two things, A CD player doesn't need 192/24 DAC's because CD's are encoded at 44.1/16, so unless you are looking for SACD players that isn't standard. Not sure the advanced DAC's make a difference.

Second thing, Cost is an object because some CD players have the the same price as a small house or new car. When pairing a system up with a receiver and speakers the front end will have the least impact on the complete system sound.

You wanted to get a system for $1000 for your living room with 4 speakers, a powerful receiver/or amp if you want to use the preouts on the Onkyo and/or source. The speakers have the biggest affect on the sound.

some CD players that I have looked into include-

NAD C542
an audio guy told me he replaced $4K worth of equipment with this one player

Rotel RCD-1072
I have heard this a nice, flat sounding player

Music Hall CD25.2
I've heard this is also a nice player, but that it tends to be a bit bright in sound.

Check out the Consonance line by Opera Audio. I have their CD120 upsampling player. It's very, very good sounding. They also make the Droplet 5.0 tube output player that is considered one of the best out there. The Consonance line also includes a few other players that are very well reviewed all over the world. In fact their whole product line receives great reviews from all over.

if your budget is wide open, i'd highly recommend the Rega Saturn for $2500. if you want to spend a bit less, you can't beat the Rega Apollo for $1000.

easily two of the very best CDPs on the market... at least from what i've auditioned.

One question, are you going to be using the Digital connection between CD player and Receiver? If so then don't wast your cash on an expensive CD player as it's decoding wont be used. If you plan on using the analogue connections and have the player decode then all you need is a decent amp as the amp won't be needed to decode anything.

cheers:)
