Well I am new here and also to LCD tv's was at Best Buys yesterday looking the 2 DVD's one was AVIA or Digital Video Essentials to have to check out my new Samsung LN 52B750, the sales person did say they no longer have them in the stores but can be ordered on Best Buys online stores, and to add to that he did say that the Best Buys Geeks who are on the road doing set up's & repairs would do a better job at calibrating the TV because they use instruments and when done the tv will use less power. any comments

Hmm. I would say that some of that would depend on what kind of calibration gear they have. For most of us the disks work well to make a good tv look better but to get into the service screens and do serious tweaking I would leave that to a professional. As far as the power reduction I think that maybe a bit of whooey unless they are referring to turning down the backlight on an LCD which you can do for free.

If Bandphan comes around today he will be a big help as to what gear they may use and if it is worth the expense. How much do they want to charge for the service?

Agreed. The cost difference would be negligible

I would use the discs to start with as they have audio setup as well. (pick up a RS SPL meter, a tool every av person should have). What I find with LCDs getting ISF, is that most find them looking very dull after what you are acustom to. Start with a 40 dollar disc, the improvements are good. The problem with some displays, is that no matter how much you tweak them, the reference levels are not able to be attained. If you find that your missing something after the disc, as tough as it sounds, a different display might be in order.

I treat best buy like my own demo store.

I would never ever buy anything there, but I like to look and touch.
