I am looking for a new Blu-Ray player to compliment my Pioneer VSX-21TXH receiver and Samsung LN46B750 LCD TV. I want to spend between $300 and $400. Any recommendations?

I'd like one that has wi-fi capabilities...

Is the PS3 really a legit Blu-Ray player when compared to a non-videogame unit?

If you don't game, then the BD-80 is the way to go, except that it isn't WiFi capable on its own. If you do game, the PS3 is a no brainer.

For a $300 budget nothing beats the PS3 and yes it is a legit BD player even if you don't play games. I don't play games but I use it to play BD, DVD and stream music, video etc. It even includes a web browser.

Or if you don't mind slower response, for about $170 the Pioneer BDP-320 offers top video and audio quality.

Oppo BDP-80 and enjoy the money that you save from your budgeted price. No question.

The BDP-80 doesn't have wifi, a feature Hittdog specified. Sony has a wi-fi Blu-ray player, but it's not as good as the PS3. Samsung has one, it's pretty good, but it costs as much as a PS3. LG has a good one with wi-fi, again, almost as much as the PS3. Those are the only ones I know of with wi-fi, and none of them are as flexible as the PS3. (the Samsung and LG players support .mkv over flash. the LG BD-390 is the only player I know to support NTFS over flash as well as handling .mkv, a nice feature). I still think the PS3 is the best choice and it's a great Blu-ray player, DVD player, and media host.

If I were to purchase a PS3, I am under the impression that I could put up to 250gb of music on the hard drive. Is that accurate? Could I just use my external hard drive to transfer MP3s?

I recently got rid of my Pioneer Elite PD-F27 and need to do something with all my music!!!

If your external drive is formatted FAT then yes it will work. You can also simply stream to the PS3 and not have to store any music on it.

Well I have both the PS3 and the LG BD-390 and maybe just my preference but for pure HT operation, DVDs, BDs, Internet streaming .. I favor the operation of the LG.

Having said that the PS3 is in my Gaming/Media room and is also an excellent choice ... that is if it is available

P.S. - I am thinking the old 36"Sony at 480i at the cabin is just too poor of resolution to handle BD and DishNetwork SD input

Simple solution: get another PS3 :D My Oppo is better than my PS3 for movies and I do very little music via the PS3. I stream stuff to it once in a while.

I am leaning heavily toward the LG BD590 now, especially since 250gb PS3s are nowhere to be found. Anyone have any experience with the LG BD590?

Get a 120 and buy a larger drive. Will probably cost you about the same. The 250 was on sale last week at Dell for $30 off (the 120 was also but sold out quick).

Remember the PS3 uses bluetooth for the remote, so if you don't mind using the controller as a remote or the sony remote then get a PS3, else you might as well get one of those Logitech bluetooth to IR adapters. I have one with a harmony 890 and it work just fine with the ps3. I didn't mind the added expense to control everything with 1 remote.
