Posted earlier today and have been reading opions and reviews on epipment all day. Going with on wall paradigm cinema or monitor r250 speakers. Decided to keep the receiver around 800.00. Will be using for panasonic plasma , blue ray , digital cable box, and xbox360. Also want some options on zones. suggestions

About an Onkyo TX-SR805?
That should do the trick nicely.

For $800, I'd do the Marantz SR5003, HK354, or Yamaha 663/Used Emotiva LPA-1 combo.

Thanks for the replies. Whats the differences between the onkyo 806 and the 876?

From what I can tell It doesn't look like you give up that much going from the 876 to the 806. Like I said I'm a newbie to this.

Go with a Marantz if you can. They make a very good sounding receiver. Check out Ubid.

http://www.ubid.com/Marantz_SR7002_7.1_Channel_THX_Select2_Home_Theater_Receiver/a11326752-rsearchone.html

If you can get one of these for around $700, it's a steal...

They retail for $1,400...
Audioholics calls it a bargain at $1400.

Check it out:

At $700 or less, it's an outright steal. You won't get a better sounding 2 channel stereo receiver for the money. And HT is very good too...

The Onkyo 876 you were considering will beat all everything that has been montioned here without even flinching...and this is coming from a Denon fanboy. However you will have to find it refurbished to meet your price point...I know accessories4less.com has them and they are factory certified w/warranty....

The Onkyo's provide the most power and processing for the $$$...I know last time I looked they had factory certified TX-NR905's for $899....If you could swing that you would have a beast of an AVR....just be careful as the Onkyo's need proper ventilation as they run hot....

If not the Onkyo then the next pick would be the Denon for sure...

I've had Onkyo before. They are good receivers, but they run pretty hot. They also are so so when it comes to sound quality. When I switched from an $800 Onkyo receiver to my Rotel that granted was a few hundred more, the SQ difference was night and day..

I haven't heard the new Marantz, but I had a high line and I mean high line AV shop owner recommend them very highly.

I decided to go with an Arcam, but the reviews on the Marantz's have been very impressive.

Don't get me wrong though. Onkyo does make a good product. My old receiver is still running at my Ex-wife's home and it has been trouble free for almost 10 years...

If you could swing the NR905 you would be most happy man....the Onkyo has the same DAC units as the top of the line Denon 5308ci and a very stout power supply and amp section....$899 is a fantastic price on that unit...

whats the difference between 905 and 906?

Onkyo added some new features to the 906...it has ISF video calibration and some other things as well...the 905 would be plenty of AVR...The *05 line is actually much better regarded than the *06 line...I know that for sure in terms of the 805 vs. 806 where is 806 was a substantial down-grade from the 805...

Thanks pulled the trigger on the onkyo 905 for 899.00 hope I like it. when everyone says the run hot do the need a fan if you putting in lets say a 4x6 closet? any help

Congradulations Man!!! The price you got is awesome and this is a totally different class reciever than anything else you can get for this price. Now as to the heat issue if the AVR is in a closet on an open self you should be fine. Now if it is a tight fit in the component rack you might want to consider a fan (which you won't here since it is in a closet after all)--the amp section and the Reon processor run hot...added together and you get a hot AVR.

Can't wait to get it!!!! Thanks for your help. So you think as long as I dedicate a single shelf for it and give it a little space I should be good?
