OK, so I was going to buy another HSU vtf2 since they are on sale, since I want to add a second sub and I already own 1... But then I started thinking about my old quest to build a subwoofer.... So I went to PE and found now the ultimax comes with an enclosure...
So what do you think about 2 of these Dayton Audio 15" Ultimax Subwoofer and Cabinet Package 300-7097
wired to a pair of these Crown XLS 1000 DriveCore Series Power Amplifier Flexible for Any Pro Audio Amplification Need 245-500 bridged mono 4 ohms to each sub...
After buying spikes, terminals, cables, poly fill, veneer, ect I'll probably be around $1300 complete...

That would be 2 800w rms 1000w peak, 15" subs for around 1300$, can anyone think of something better for the price? I figure if I buy this stuff now Ill have them complete by christmass, so xmass gift for myself...

If you have the tools to put the cabinet together, that would be a killer system for the price. I don't think any sub vendor could compete with that, or even come close. You will probably want to EQ the subs and maybe put a filter in there to insure they don't bottom out. I would at least look into getting a miniDSP.

As they are sealed subs, EQ is pretty much mandatory if you want to get the most out of them. Your other option is an 18" option with a flat pack from DIY sound group. I guess you should also decide what you're looking for as well. Are these going to be HT subs or music only subs? Do you have any output goals? Any FR response goals?

Fuzz I have an svs eq1 will that work? I was thinking just let the avr handle sending it the lows? What do you recommend... As far as the tools go, I have employ a full time master carpenter that will make short work of putting that together and applying the veneer...

The EQ 1 should be fine. I've never used one before, but it looks like it's basically an outboard Audyssey sub EQ. I've compared SubEQ, antimode dual core 2.0, and mini-DSP. For user interface, antimode is probably the easiest to use, but has a hard time driving a pro-amp. MiniDSP works like a charm, but only has 6 corrective slopes and needs a mic/computer/REW. I'm sure the SVS would be fine, no reason for it to not be. Basically as long as it can apply a 12db/oct boost starting at the in room roll off point and also do some room correction you'll be fine. I only skimmed the manual, but it seems like it should do this. You'll also want to implement a high pass filter if it can do that at around 10-20hz if you plan on pushing the volume up.

The extra unit isn't for crossover, but for the stuff mentioned above. I don't know if that was unclear or not. Which room are you putting this in and what are your plans for this? Are you going with two to create a smoother in room response? If you have a master carpenter you may also want to consider a more custom box and simply mimicking the design of the flat pack.

I am in the process of building nearly the same setup. I bought 2 ultimax 15"s and a pair of boxes from DIYsoundgroup. These appear to be the same boxes offered by PE. That is a great deal. I just finished building my boxes they are very easy to build and couple of clamps and glue is all you need. I am planning to power mine with a Behringer iNuke 3000 DSP to handle power and equalization.

I think it is a great idea, not that I am biased.

What would he do different than the flat pack, I figured that is all perfectly cut, I still pay him $28 an hour, lol... I am going with 2 subs because I can never leave anything alone, in truth the vtf2 sounds awesome and makes way more bass than I ever use, but Im a jerk,,,
