Best AVR for PSB Speakers?

Hello all,

Shortly I'll be picking up some PSB T65 fronts (6/4 ohm), C60 center and B15 surrounds (I'll be adding a sub later). I've been doing quite a bit of research on AVRs but all the manufacturers seem to have comparable products. What would you guys recommend for my setup? Cost isn't too much of an issue but I would prefer to keep it under $1000.

Additionally, I don't care for 3D TV technology so would I have any benefit getting one of the latest receivers from Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha etc. since they are HDMI 1.4a compatible? I've found some 2009 receivers from these manufacturers heavily discounted online... I'm leaning towards that route at the moment unless I'm missing something from the newer receivers I haven't noticed.

Thanks

Since you're in Canada, I'd hope you could find a Denon 3310 for under $1000 with the 3311s coming out.

I'm driving an entire Image suite of speakers fron an older Yamaha RX-v1800 and it has no problmes pushing my T45s into the mid 90dbs seated 7' feet away. If you don't need a fancy GUI interface I'd look at something like that.

Yeah, I've been looking at the 3310 and the Onkyo 807... which is considered better? The 707 seems to be a bit cheaper.

Hey guys, I've been researching some more receivers and I'm really liking the Onkyo 707 or the RX-V1800 from a features/price standpoint... I can get them online for $550... are there better receivers out there for around the $500-$800 price range? I haven't been really able to find one.

If you're in the US check out Accessories For Less for factory refurbished Onkyos. The have the 707 marked down to $399 and the 807 marked down to $550.

Wow... that's really cheap... shipping to Canada from that store isn't too bad either. I'll probably jump on a 707 for that price. Thanks!

I don't think they ship refurbished Onkyos to Canada but you can always ask. Or get a friend in the states to take delivery.

You obviously have great taste in speakers... Please go listen to the receivers and I think you'll choose Marantz. A 5004 Refurb can be had for $500 from A4L and OneCall.

Why? Does Marantz sound different than Denon, Yamaha, or Onkyo?

Why is that Marantz? Any special thing about Marantz SR5004 ?

I have the same setup except for the fronts which are the T45's and using the Denon 1910 to run the show. I have been able to crank the HT to absurd levels with the 1910. So any one of the receivers that have been mentioned will power your setup, the 3310 or the 807 are good if you will like to have a network receiver and preamp outputs or you can get the 707 which isn't a network receiver but it still offers preamp outputs which lower end Denon models don't have.

The refurbs are a great value on Accessories4less. I like the way they look too. They are also a solid product. I was merely razzing Tech because he was indicating the Marantz somehow sounded better with your speakers than say Onkyo, Denon, or Yamaha.

Why is that only Marantz sounded better on PSB speakers? Any particular reason for that?

It doesn't. Do a blind listening test with any of the other receivers mentioned and you'll see they sound all the same. The only differences in sound is when you begin to push their ampflifiers. The one with teh biggest reserves will remain sounding the same while the others with less reserve will make the spealkers sound etchy and strained. The biggest differences are in feature sets. ;)
