Hello everyone.

I have a question please, I appreciate your help. And I don't know the right place for this topic in this forum. I ask to the moderator to put it in the right place please. :)

Today I have in my computer an audio card named AUDIOPHILE 2496 and the frequency response is great. the response is 22 - 22k in 44.1hz. I can hear more high frenquencies and this is great for me because I work with CUBASE, BUt it is a very old one and I cant use in the new computers, new motherboards. so...

I am going to buy and USB one. I would like to know which one is the best as monitor ( I am talking about audio output, ok? ) .

1) Roland ua 44 Quad Capture or
2) Steinberg - UR 44 ?

I would like the one I can listen more clear the high frequency monitoring, I am not talking about the MIC inputs.

Thank you so much for the help.

That is a lousy card you are using.

In a DAW for best results you should absolutely use an external DAC and no internal card.

All versions of Cubase are now compatible with Windows 10.

I have used a Firefce 800 with my DAW since 2002, I love it.

RME now have a Fireface 802 which is their first unit to replace the Fireface 800.

Unfortunately there are no drivers yet for Windows 10, only up to 8.1!

I assume there will soon be drivers for Windows 10. I have contacted them to find out.

I use WaveLab 6 which is another Steinberg product. I can update that for little money for Windows 10.

Once there are drivers to run Fireface 802 I will likely rebuild my DAW and get the 802 and upgrade WaveLab.

If you want to know the most versatile, reliable and best sounding units are for what I think you want to do, then RME products are your answer.

I see their products in just about every studio I enter.

Hello, thank you for your explanation. But I would like to choose between these 2 ones I said.

ANd also to know about the frequence response question I did.

Thank you again :)

I'm sure both have ample frequency response. Choose the one that meets your needs. If you are using Steinberg software, you should probably go with your unit.

I have had a closer look at both of your choices. I think the Roland unit is likely junk. The give away is the sensitivity control. That is short hand for the front end having inadequate dynamic range. When you see those type of controls you can never get the balance right between clip and the noise floor.

Don't focus on frequency response, even the cheapest and worst units will get that right. There are much more impotent parameters that sort the wheat from the chaff.

With units like this it the headroom that makes or breaks the deal. The vast majority of units all way short here in my experience.

That us why I recommended really god gear like RME which is not Far Eastern junk.
