Am undecided on which AVR to purchase just under $400 which is dolby atmos enabled, 4k, wifi and with at least some good sound output.
Kindly Please advise.

Refurbished more than likely. What speakers?

Agreed. I would also look at the used market. Dolby Atmos, 4k, wifi, and decent output is much too tall of an order for $400. That unicorn doesn't exist.

Acc4Less has the Yamaha RX-A770 refurb for only $329.99!
BRAND NEW Yamaha 7.2 w/ 235W x 2Ch into 2 ohms Dynamic Power = $350
REFURBISHED
Yamaha 7.2 w/ 240W x 2Ch into 2 ohms Dynamic Power = $330

Why buy a refurbished AVR for $20 cheaper?

@ AcuDefTechGuy very good point. I was not aware of this. When I looked at your post above I seen the $650. My bad. Thanks for pointing that out!

Cheers,

Phil

You bet. :D

Over the years, I've seen many cases where a comparable BRAND NEW AVR could be bought on AMAZON for close to the same price as REFURBISHED - sometimes even LESS expensive!

If you look hard you might find the right deal but selection is limited... and though I support a budget, an extra c note might just get you into a selection of better options!

Especially in the Fall you see even better deals on Amazon for Yamaha. Around October thru December. My V681 was $299 in 2017. My A770 was $399 in 2018.

It could be just a rip in the box but the actual AVR is new and unused condition. I've gotten a deal on a vacuum cleaner like this once. Not the same machine vs machine but you get the idea. Here in CAD I was told that it was law to do so if the box was damaged. Not sure only miele does this or all boxed goods.

Let’s not compare a vacuum cleaner to a complex AVR. :D

There is huge difference between a rip-in-the-packing-box AVR and a REFURBISHED AVR.

Just a tear in the box = OPEN BOX, not refurbished.

There is no “could be” or question about it.

Open Box = store returns or display model, full new factory warranty.

Refurbished = AVR was sent back to the repair center, then sent to store, you do not get full new factory warranty.

I get it! Just saying that the store that is selling the refurb AVR might be labeling it as the same thing this vacuum sales dude was saying.

Here's a comment the owner of Accessories4less made in another group in response to assumptions about refurbished units:
"...don't assume a refurbished product was previously a defective product. 95% of all refurbished products were tested no problem found. In this day in age of the "Amazon" experience, so many products get returned w/zero troubleshooting to determine what's wrong, it anything.

These returns from big box stores are usually working perfect, but the consumers will return AVR's due to the ease of doing it..causing a massive problem for manufactures. Apple, Dell, and just about anyone sells refurbs b/c new products can't be resold as new again once a box has been opened, even though nothing is wrong.

In closing, the 5% of products that get repaired, it's board swapping. The days of getting out a soldering iron and "repairing" things is long over. Once a board is exchanged, it's a good as new. Failures can occur with any product both new and refurbished. The odds are virtually identical around 3%. "

To be or not to be, that is the question. :D

Bottom line, the FACT is, Refurbished is NOT BRAND NEW. That’s an unequivocal fact. Nothing to debate here.

The FACT is, to be a refurbished Denon or Marantz, the AVR had to come through the Denon REPAIR center.

The fact is, refurbished gets you a 1 year (or less) factory warranty. Brand new gets you full factory warranty (usually 3 YR).

The fact is, I’ve personally experienced 3 times where the Denon repair center could not fix my Denon’s.

The fact is, I’ve personally experienced 4 times where refurbished Denon’s arrived broken from an AUTHORIZED REFURBISHED Denon retailer (not A4L).

In conclusion, the fact is, If you can buy brand new for about the same price as refurbished, there is absolutely no reason to buy refurbished. Is there?
