Beoplay H8 headphones

Hi all. I recently invested in some new cans. As the title suggests I got the H8's. I've been feeling all over the board about them, some tracks sound great while others are whoefully low in bass. I can't complain I only paid $300 for them (Canadian). But the other day I pulled out my Beats by Dre Solo's, that I've been reading such horrible things about, plugged them in and got all the bass I could handle. What gives here. Does any one suppose my new beoplays are damagaged in some way. Just the difference in bass is enough not to even want to use the new ones. Unfortunately for me my health is failing and the only way I can get anything is via the net. That's why I don't try things before I buy. I listen to you fine people and read alot of reviews. I had read the H8's were "balanced" I didn't realize that was code for no bass. The new gen. 2 ones coming soon to Canada are said to improve the bass experience. But I have a sneaky suspician that these cans are damaged. great deal at 300 bucks unless they are damaged and my 2 weeks is already up for return.
Hoping someone might tell me to buy the Oppo H2A and all my problems will be solved? I'm pretty sure that's the model number for that headphone amp DAC.
Cheers.

Having a headphone amp can help to improve your bass, if you want to get one I would suggest O2DAC as it is all you will need for good price. But I cant promise that it will save your day as it sounds like you are a bass head. Beats are known to have boosted bass thus your new headphones might sound missing bass as they are neutral, they have the bass but it is not boosted and has flat response instead of bass peaked. If you want headphones with bass I would take a look on Denon AH-D600.

All I can say about this issue is that most headsets have exaggerated bass response. I want my headphones to sound like my main system with balanced, neutral bass response. I have tried many cans and many of them just sound full of bass, lacking in 'air' and transparency for the sake of exaggerated bass response. I've also tried 'Beats' and in my opinion, they are crap. Right now, I'm using Grado headphones with an O2 headphone amp and they are absolutely fabulous. They are my benchmark for how I want my main system to sound. As an additional note, if you want more bass then just turn up the bass tone control on your amp/ receiver ?? However, with good cans plugged directly into your CD player or amp, they should sound perfect......exactly the way the recording was produced in the studio and how they want it to sound. Older recordings require more gain to push up the volume which is why I recommend a headphone amplifier.

Thanks for your reply. I couldn't agree more plugged into my marantz sr6010, they sound respectable, no where near my paradigm floor standing 75f's, and my sub also a paradigm. I was hoping for more quality in the low end. I love my low end sounds. However I want some headlhones that will caty that quality on a cell phone or laptop as well. That is without breaking my bank. My home theater has already done that. Can you buy headphones for under a grand Canadian. Whats that in US dollars around 750 or less. This is what I'm trying to replicate:
Marantz sr6010
Paradigm Prestige 75F's fronts
Paradigm prestige 45c center
Paradigm Millenia ones rears
Paradigm Millenia Sub
Oppo 103 Blu Ray player
Beoplay H6 headphones. Sorry not the 8's i posted them as.
Samsung S6
Asus Zenbook laptop

Thanks for any help you can give. I would go somply test and see what sounded best but my failing health wont let me travel much. So I need to count on others like you. So thank you kindly.

You wont find headphones that will have same sound as speakers and you can't compare headphones to speakers as they work quite differently. And if you are looking for headphones that have bass that hits your chest, this wont happen either.

I haven't heard the Beoplay headphones so I can't really say what would be better and what not. What I myself like is Sennheiser HD600, these offer neutral and accurate sound how ever these will need an amp to get best from them so not really good option for mobile use. Beyerdynamic DT 990 is another headphone I like, not as neutral as HD600 as they have V shaped sound signature, they are available as 32 Ohm so they can be run by any device. Another good option would be https://www.massdrop.com/buy/fostex-x-massdrop-th-x00-purpleheart-headphones?referer=4568TG&mode=guest_open they have stronger bass, only down side is long delivery time. Another option in your price range would be Denon AH-D7100, these should offer plenty of bass as well.

Try Grado Lab's stuff.......they are really good. Another one worth a look would be the Oppo PM series of headsets. I have never tried them but I have read rave reviews of them.

Actually the H6's have a reputation for being some of the most comfortable cans available. And bass has never really been a problem with B&O headphones. I have the H2's and their bass is very good. I have demoed the H6's and they too have very good bass response. You should be able to drive them easily with an iPhone or laptop.

You may just have a defective pair.

Hi thanks for all your help. I actually ended up buying a fiio e12 and my end result is far better than expected. Bass is good not great. But the mids and highs are just wonderfull. So I'm a happy camper. And yes all those things abour the h6's is true. They are very comfy, but for me they do lack bass. But my ratings on these cans is much improved with an amp and I really like the portable amplifier I got. got.
Cheers

I wanted to thank you for your responses. I ended up getting a Fiio E12 and it's pretty darn great. The headphones on laptop and cell sound drastically better. I'll live with a flatter bassresponse becouse those exagerated bass responsess in my dr dre's sound ok for about a min. Before I'm tearing them off for my h6's. I liked what you said about getting the same sound as you do with your main system. That's really what I wss after as well. So thanks, and I hope I'm ok sending these emails to you thru the sute.

I recently had opportunity to audition H6 and I must say that I wasn't impressed by them. They have bass that is little overwhelming and lack some detail. Also mids / highs are missing some detail I'm used to. Sound wise I would say they are some what avarage and same goes with comfort. Headband is pretty nice on them but the earpads arent too comfortable. For the price they sell for I can find better sounding cans, do they look as good, perhaps not.
