This movie came through town tonight; my wife convinced me. It's a documentary biography of Kevin Clash, the real guy behind Elmo the Sesame Street puppet and other Muppet characters. Clash is from Baltimore and came home for the presentation along with the director (who was handing out buttons at the entrance...small budget) and the cinematographer. Much to my surprise, the bio is quite entertaining and has a lot of backstage footage of how the Muppet production works.
Clash never seemed to want much in life since childhood beside being a puppeteer and hit the holy grail when he got into the Henson crew. In the movie and in person, he's quite an engaging and likable guy. After some Q&A, he brought out Elmo to answer a few questions. This movie made the rounds at Sundance and other festivals, is looking for a mainstream breakout. I don't think the chances of that are real good, but it's definitely worth a view if you get the chance.
