Anyone have any experience w/both and care to offer opinions?

From talking w/Emo tech, it leads me to concluded they'd have a similar pure power sonic signature.

thanx for sharing

User friendly

My beef with the A-500 is the lack of auto sensing which slightly decreses the "family friendly" nature of the HT set up for the Mrs and little one.

As for me, I couldn't really care less about manually turning on the A-500s prior to use. I know, I know, the A-500 is really pro gear and not for non-tech types.

Back to the original question though, anyone ever A-B or have experience with both amps?

thnks!

There are a number of posters here who have the A500 and some have a stack of them, bridged.
If you want auto on, perhaps a power strip that has a 12V trigger for some of the switched outlets would work for you; turn the main unit on and the other will follow a few seconds later.

12 volt triggers

Mycrafts, do you know of any reassonably priced 12 volt triggers. It sounds like a workable option.

Thanks for speading the audio knowledge!

Paul like I said in my PM I'm a bit too tired to get into details tonight but I will say this for now . The A-500's are about the coolest running amps I have ever seen . I can run mine non-stop for 2 hours at roughly 94db and the amp will hardly even get warm to the touch . I say this only becuase I now (for the last 6 months) leave the amp turned on 24-7 . While just simply turned on it pretty much stays at room temp .

Unless you have an amp that likes to build up a lot of heat even while not in use then there is no harm in simply leaving the amp on. Another thing worth mention is that there is a very simple procedure for doing away with the the VU meter lights but still keeping the clipping lights active.

Details to follow .

Well, your initial post didn't indicate that you have a receiver but I would assume you have one and these would be from the pre amp output? Many receivers do have such a 12V trigger in them. If so, use that trigger. Or describe your overall setup and see what can be done. But, I don't have a specific trigger only.

We are here to share what we know; that is the whole purpose of this board :) Come to think of it, it would be hard to share what we don't know. ;)

Using a Denon AVR 2805 as pre/pro

it has a 12 v trigger spot on the rear. I've never triggered my HT theater.
Please do tell more about this mysterious hole (and make it up if you don't know!)

I actually like the goofy meters on my A-500. No problems there.

Still wondering what I am missing sonically by not having the Emo (and without having to pay return shipping on that monster if it makes no auduble difference.)

In pursuit of audio nirvania.

You run the appropriate plugged wires, 1/8" connectors, from the receiver to a power center with 12v triggered switched outlets on it, your A500 master switch would be on all the time, plugged into that switched outlet and when the receiver is turned on, the amp will be turned on as well. A simple one button operation for the family:D
Not sure which power center besides a Monster  has this feature. Don't like to recommend monster on principles.

Yeah. Check the back of the receiver where the plug is to see what the maximum wattage it can handle. Mine is a total of 120w for 2 outlets. Like the previous poster stated - for DVD, tape decks, turntables, cd player etc.)

Okay, you called me out :p

I run seven A500's. I haven't bothered working out the 12V trigger with them. My previous amp, a B&K Ref 7270 Series II, had remote power that worked off the 12V trigger on my pre/pro.

To be honest, at first I thought it was a slight PITA, but now I kind of like not having the trigger. Even the wife (loserwife ;) ) has been trained and is comfortable not having the remote trigger. When I'm just watching SD television I just turn on the front three channels. When we're watch HD or DVD programs we turn on all seven.

Granted, the macros on my Phillips Pronto Pro touchscreen remote don't mean much anymore since I still have to get up and turn on the amps. But there has to be some sort of trade off since I only paid $179 per amp.

Try the smartstrip to turn the amp on/off with the receiver.
