behinger km1700 for sub duty

good afternoon,
I recently replaced my behringer km1700 that I had powering my polk speakers with a crown xls because it was not a common ground amp.

so I have a spare km1700 sitting around.

my question is, has anyone used the km1700 for subwoofer duty? or the smaller km750?

I know a lot of people use the inukes, or the older ep seies of behringers, just haven't seen anyone using one of these.

2x500 8ohm, or 2x800 4ohm.

any insights would be great,
thanks.

Personally have not heard of that line of Behringer amp. With Behringer hard to know what the power or other specs actually are, tho. Don't know why it wouldn't be okay for sub duties. What sub(s) do you have in mind? You have dsp handled separately?

most likely some 12 inch daytons in sealed enclosures.
I do not have dsp handled yet. currently in the planning stage, was wondering if I should keep this amp for subs, or sell it and get something else.

That is one of the nice things about the iNuke DSP series amp, with the onboard dsp, but you could easily add a miniDSP into the mix (or maybe even just your avr).

eh, by the time I bought a mini dsp, it would probably be the same amount I could sell my behringer for and buy another crown xls

But the Crown XLS doesn't have dsp for eq either....dsp in those are just for crossover duties. I use Crown XLS for my diy subs, but use other dsp for eq.

ah, ok.
how do you like the xls for your subs?

Work fine, have four 1500s, one's on speaker duties in a 2ch setup, three are running subs and a transducer...great little amps. How's the fan noise on the KM1700?

I have a 1500 running my polk sda2b's now, seems to be a nice amp, appears to lose a little of the bottom end that the behringer had, maybe its just me.

I never had the fan come on running any of the multiple setups I had on the behringer. id still be using it if it was a common ground amp.

What's the issue with the ground? Doubt the Crown is losing the bottom end...

the polk sda speakers use an interconnect cable between them to share some of the signal, and require a common ground amp to work with that cable. it will apparently ruin either the amp, or the speakers if that cable is connected. you can run them just fine off any amp without the interconnect cable, and they sound great, you just don't have the sda effect.

like I said, it may be just me as far as the bottom end goes, but I normally didn't have my subwoofer turned on in two channel, but since I hooked up the crown, I do now. could be the behringer just has more power, so its not really a fair comparison.
