I hope that this is in the correct forum, if not maybe one of the admins can move it. Anyway, I was reading on howstuffworks.com the other day and found an interesting article on how Home Theater works. So, I checked it out. I figure it is a pretty good article for newbies like myself and others who are just starting to figure out the HT scene. There are links within the article to other articles such as how Surround Sound works, but I have not yet read that one. Anyway, thought this would be interesting reading. What do you think?

They have some good info, but it's mixed in with some questionable stuff... and that's to be expected.

For someone who doens't know anything at all it may be a good place to start, though I think at times it overcomplicates things by trying to cover more than it should. They also allow for millions of options (i.e. who, in this day and age, will be dealing with Dolby Pro Logic or trying to create pseudo-surround out of 4 speakers and a potentiometer?)

I like their drawings, but I found their recommended loudspeaker placement to be quite a bit off from what we, THX, HAA, or ITU recommends.

That site sure is ad-heaven. It's like you pay an "ad tax" for every 200 words :)

Clint,
I agree, this is not the most accurate article, nor was it meant to be. It is mainly a high level overview of what home theater is. However it is helpful in some ways. In any case, if that gets you interested, then you start looking for more information on better sites like this one. Glad I found it. It's answered several questions for me already.

Unfortunately the site has really gone crazy on ads lately. :( There didn't used to be so many when I first started to visit it. Owell, he's got to make some money somehow I guess huh?
