Hello everyone,

These are going to be newbie questions since I am beginning to learn everything so bear with me.

I am currently finishing my basement and I have a dedicated 15x20 room which I am converting into a 7.1 home theater. My budget is around $7000.

My main questions are on the Projector and Speakers.

I cannot decide between the Mitsubishi 1000 and the 3000. I read that projector central rated the 1000 "Editor Choice" but worried about not getting the contrast and black levels.

Also speaker I am looking at the B&W 600 or the Klipsch RF82 or F3.

The receiver is Pioneer VSX-82TXS
103" Vutec Letric III Screen here is another questions has anyone had this screen and what type do you get. (Matte White, Bright White, Gray).

Sorry for all the questions. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

1. Both projectors are excellent, but because they lack lens shift, careful care must be taken when deciding upon them and where they must go. The 3000 is a bit better than the 1000 in a theater black environment.

2. I'm not going to suggest speakers. B&W is great, but seriously expensive and other products can deliver higher quality for far less money most of the time. Unless you are buying used at a significant discount, then it's just a bit much. I'm so-so on Klipsch stuff. There are just a ton of quality speaker options out there and YOU need to find what YOU like. Nobody can tell you what you like.

3. The screen... Well, VUTEC runs deep on product, but I would always suggest a permanently mounted fixed screen over an electric screen if at all possible. Instead of spending $1,000+ on a screen you could go with a Carada screen for well under $1K and get more quality.

Thanks

Thanks BMXTRIX,

1. On the speakers what type would you suggest for around $3000. I know Audioholics like the Axiom brand. Any ideas.

2. Is there a place were I can read up on the Carada screens.

Thanks again

bronx,

one thing to note about klipsch speakers is they are very efficient (which, for lack of a simpler way to say it means they are easy to drive with just about any surround receiver) and are relatively affordable for the good quality sound. i don't like them so much for music, but for movies where soundtrack complaints are usually harder to pinpoint, i think they do a very good job for the money.

just one opinion. as in the previous reply to your questions - you just have to choose your budget (which you already have) and then try out different speakers and make a choice.

personally, i did not want to buy such a big (both financially and physical size) item online. so, i limited myself to only speakers that i could find locally. i live ina big city w/ lots of choices. you might not....i don't know.

PS - if you decide to research klipsch some more, i think they list MSRP on their web site. so you could play around with that and mesh it with yuor budget. retail will be a little less than what is shown on their web site, but you still have to factor in tax. so, using the MSRP price as an "out the door price" might be a good estimate of what it will cost you.

Another question, how many tiers of seating are you planning, 1 or 2? You’ll want a multi-polar type speaker for side-surrounds and maybe the rears also. You need to be careful with Klipsch, skip the F3s. If the room isn’t appropriately damped, they will be harsh sounding. For better bass response, you might consider a dual sub setup, but a good single sub should be less expensive. There are many good speaker options available also from ACI, Ascend Acoustics, Aperion Audio, Athena Tech, Atlantic Tech, Axiom, Boston Acoustics, Dali, Definitive Technology, Energy, Focal/JM Lab, HSU, Infinity, JBL, KEF, Martin Logan, Monitor Audio, NHT, Onyx, Paradigm, Phase Technology, Polk Audio, PSB, RBH, Rocket, Sonance, SpeakerCraft, SVS, etc.
