I have a pair of Rogers speakers from the 1980's, they are very good quality but unfortunately the receiver is broken....

Now I currently have a Samsung Full HD Tv and a DVD player plugged into it via HDMI....

I would like an amp/receiver that will allow me to run my tv and dvd sound through these speakers... but I would like to continue using my dvd player via hdmi so that the picture upscales to 1080p..

If it helps at all the speakers use monster cables....

I dont have a big budget and I really don't know anything about this and its so hard to get information explained simply... so are there any products anyone can recommend that will do everything I want at a reasonable price?

Are you looking for a stereo receiver or are you looking to eventually move to 5.1/7.1 surround sound?

I'm just looking for a stereo receiver for now....

I have seen plenty available in the 200-300$ range, I just don't know if they are suitable for these speakers which I believe cost 2000$ at the time and I also don't understand how to set it up with HDMI for my Dvd player...

any help much appreciated thanks!

Are your speakers listed in the following link? I would like to get more info on their specs first.

What is your budget?
I'm not sure but the ones at the bottom the LS3 5A look very similar.

Budget I guess $300-$500... oh and that's australian dollars... so something that costs around 200-300$ in the US... that's probably not enough to spend is it.

I've done some research and the receiver has to have 2 digital inputs (1 for tv, 1 for dvd player).

I'm thinking that this may be all a little complex, the speakers are VERY old and maybe i should just go for a home theatre in a box, something like the samsung ht-bd2e which has a built in blu-ray player too, would that be any good?

Any more help appreciated thanks!

If you are happy with your speakers, keep them for now and build your system one component at a time. I generally do not like HTIB becuase they limit you in terms of futur upgrades by either insuffcicient inputs on the receiver or dumb propriertary interconnects/speaker cables making impossible to get new speakers and connect them using ordinary wire.

You have a couple of options.

You can get a stereo receiver from Yamaha and run the non digital outputs from your DVD player to the receiver and get sound in stereo.

or you can start off with a basic HT receiver which has digital inputs and can get sound out of teh receiver from the dgitial ouptuts. Incidently this receiver costs as much as the stereo receiver mentioned above..

I don't know how important it is for you to have the latest audio codecs that blue-ray has to offer but if you are content with just the basic dolby Digita or DTS, then the RX-V363 will do you just fine. Then you can concentrate on getting new speakers. If you want to futur proof on the receiver, you'll have to step up to this in the Yamaha line.. which is way out of your budget.

Whats the used marked like in Australia.. Maybe you can look at getting used receivers/speakers which is another option.
