Hello,
I jumping in headfirst into this home theatre and home audio world.
Bank story new to forums
I'm an avid movie and TV show in enthusiast, I do a lot of home to tinkering and computer-related stuff. But even so up till recently I had effectively stayed pretty clear of home audio and the like.
I've had a mediocre 70-inch TV for a while now, and I've used a set of Logitech 506 speakers, that I got when I went to college for my dorm room, as by sound system..... And I was even using it stereo out from tv.
Well that's what I actually got me down this road. At first I just wanted to use the full 5.1 of those crappy speakers after a lot of messing around and I bought a couple different DSP and decoding devices from Amazon, I realized I should just go all out. I returned most of the equipment Amazon and went on Facebook and found a 10 year old home theatre in a box for 60 bucks and figured what the heck why not. All that did though was get my feet wet. It's too old to have HDMI inputs and my optical out on TV only does PCM stereo so everything except the inbuilt smart features are only in stereo.
Home theatre in a box I purchased was a Sony DAV-DZ175 5.1 so with wet feet and a deep Thursday for true power my story continues.
That was roughly a month ago. For the last 4 weeks I've sat and researched and acquired a basic understanding of home theatre world. And I think I'm ready to jump in the deep end
After a great deal of research I decided I wanted to go with a 9.2 Channel receiver with 11 Channel processing, and I wanted full preouts for future upgrades and possibly separates in the future. Originally I was going to go with the cheapest option with these features, being the pioneer VSX-LX504, but after reading the reviews here and Reddit I started to look at other brands. It took awhile but I did find that for be Denon seemed to hit the nail on the read for me for both tech features and audio features/quality.
With the back story and into out of the way I was hoping to just get some basic advice and double check if I'm doing anything really wrong for my first set up.
I don't have a huge budget to start but decent enough. I think I've decided on this set up for now downsizing most of my budget in a nice receiver and a decent front sound stage.
For plan provided, but important details
So my room is 17.5' L x 12' w and 8' H
70" RCA tv on 12' wall (1 foot off wall)
Primary seating 2 recliners 5' from screen (6' from wall) 1' between them towed into tv
Waiting on Denon AVR-x3700h
Getting used Ultracube 10 sub
Fluence signature centre just came in
Fluence signature book shelves for fronts just came in
L+R surr and rear L+R surr will be small Sony sattalites for now (the nations and surr from Sony DAV-DZ175)
I have also ordered cl2 12-gauge 2c ocf speaker wire and plan to do in wall wiring definitely for surrs and rears, I think I've planned out the cable runs pretty well and because I'm going through my floor and in my basement, I think I'm going to add an extra 30 ft each run so that if later on I choose I can move my whole system into the basement without much work rewiring.
Later this year or spring next year I do plan on getting a power amp and doing the 4 Atmos ceiling speakers also wired up my self.
Anyway aside from the obvious upgrade too surrounds and rears is there anything that is really good or bad about my plans. I included an floor plan for you to see also they shows the where I think I'll place the speakers.
Also I do have a couple of smaller questions,if I work to pick up a set of bipolar speakers to use as surrounds would they be too much for the size of room?
Are there any prerequisites a requirement spring ceiling speakers for Atmos?
I'm trying to decide if I want to go the cheaper route and just get a 2-channel amp for the atmos channels,or go with a 5.1 and then have the ability to buy amp floor standing speakers later in life. Which would you recommend more?
