First time post, hopefully this is the correct Forum

Here are the parameters.

This is a system to be set up in a study/bedroom. There is a 32 inch Sony Bravia Xbr lcd on the wall. Small room. THe front speakers are mythos gem with the center probably a mythos seven. Poor viewing angle (nothing I can do about that). What I would like is a decent receiver and a dvd player. Probably no sub or rears. I would like the ability to run a music server or Ipod type compressed music with the least amount of effort. I dont need a ton of power but I do recognize clean pretty sound. Would like HDMI on the receiver and the DVD player and perhaps the ability to run speakers in another room. Budget is $1500 Oppo 981 hd is fine

You have two choices here.

1) Go with a good home theater receiver even though you'll be running in stereo - this way you can do all that fancy audio/video stuff I don't know about, because for now I'm a stereo/Pro Logic kind of guy. Yamaha Natural Sound and Denon come to mind as good choices.

2) Get a freaking amazing stereo rig for that price. Spend a little on a good DVD player, and get a $1000+ stereo rig. Your options for stereo at that price are almost endless and you will be able to feed those speakers every watt of power they can handle without catching on fire. You could even get a low-distortion pro audio type amp.

thanks.
Familiar with the names not the models. Would prefer to go with separates but don't know the names anymore. See the oppo dvd mentioned quite a bit but don't know the product. Already lost the battle over the speakers due to cosmetics. Have a system that takes up a larger footprint downstairs so I have to keep this one under control. Prefer HDMI and the ability to have it talk to ipod/hardrive

Yamaha sound projectors

Check out the reviews of the Yamaha sound projectors. It is a solid bar mounted under the TV that functions as the receiver and 5.0 speakers. A sub is recommended with this system. The YSP doesn't have a ton of extra features, but you could add a SqueezeBox 3 to control music streaming from a PC.

I have the low end Oppo and would recommend one of their DVD players.

thanks for the heads up. I lost the speaker battle already. Def Tech gems and a mythos seven center. Just want good source and amplification. If I get real lucky will add a sub later.

Bedroom receiver

I would recommend an entry level Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo, or Pioneer receiver that has the iPod dock you want for $2-300. Spending $1k on a receiver wont improve the sound quality of your satellite speakers. Connect the HDMI video directly from the source to the TV.

Another high WAF speaker option is in-wall speakers. When installed they are flush with the wall and can be painted to match.
