Hi all.
I've got a problem with the bass in my room. I've added bass traps in the front corners and have some miner eq in place. (cut only ) I have pretty smooth clean bass when watching movies but when it comes to music the huge suck-out at 80hz in my listening position becomes glaring. I did notice however that when I stand up the bass reappears! I've got a lot of experience with audio/home theater as I'm an installer for a living. I have encountered bass problems before that I was able to solve by shifting the subs and or the listening position and applying some eq inline. the physical aspect of those problems have always applied to front to back or side to side adjustments. I've not experienced a problem in the vertical plane?? Anybody out there had a similar problem? And if so how did you fix it?

What did you use to measure the response from the seating position?

sounds like you don't have the delay set right between your subs and satellite speakers or your dealing with a room node in which case you may have to reposition your seating and/or subs. I suggest trying some of the methods I wrote about in the following article:

Multiple Subwoofers Setup & Connection Guide

re; Bandphan

I used a radio shack analog spl meter and the Rives audio test disc with tones recorded specifically for that meter.

Thank's for the gentle nudge to re-read the article. It's forced me to try some things I didn't really see as options after reading the article the first time. ( I'm always reading , but putting the techniques to the test doesn't always happen )The two "front" subs are large boxes while the third "back" sub is a little more easily located , and though the room is a dedicated theater , it's 11' width had me believing my placement options were quite limited. After re-reading the article, I said to myself "just put the subs in the recommended locations to see if there's an improvement , and if it forces me to rebuild the two big ones due to space considerations than I can deal with that." Well after some back strain
( part of the fun! ) I actually have bass in my listening position! It could be tighter , but without the impact and weight I have now they were useless to me anyway. I'll enjoy cleaning up my prodigious output!
Again, Thank's for the advice , and the woman thank's you too. I no longer have to rattle her on the couch upstairs to get a little thump down here!
