As I review the user manuals for several AV receivers prior to making a purchase decision, I see that the speaker size and bass management function is not always the same and somewhat confusing.
I am putting together a 7.1 system with excellent surround and centre speakers. However, their lower range is only about 90 HZ. Therefore, they will be set to small. My front mains are high quality and can go down to about 35 HZ. I thought I would set them to large. I would also set the SW to on.
Some receivers allow you to have the SW on with the mains and others do not.
Now, there seems to be two issues regarding bass management. HT stuff (i.e. LFE) and true music. I would like the option of having the SW work in pure stereo mode along with the mains. Not all receivers seem to allow this. The Yamaha 2400 does not. Looks like the D 3805 will. The NAD T773 may allow it, but I think only if you set up two "presets", one for HT and one for music, since you have to play with the cross over freq cutoff to make it work.
Many user manuals actually seem to suggest setting all speakers to small if you have a SW. WHy would I want to cut out the low end of my very expensive and good main speakers for music? Frankly, they are higher quality than the SW. I can see it perhaps for HT use.
What have you all done out there in HT / music land?
Thanks for your help.
