basics about speaker

I just bought a new yamaha home theatre system. I was wondering if its okay to use the speaker wires from my old home theatre system to connect the speakers.
the old wires are slightly thinner than the ones that has been provided by yamaha. does it affect the quality a great deal.

Unless the old wires are really thin, using them should be OK. Anything from 16ga. on up is fine for all but very long runs (like from one end of the house to the other), IMO.
