Basic TV to Home Theater Connection

I've got a 46" Philips 46PFL5505D and a VSX-520 Yamaha Amp. I had it all working great and my dog stepped on the remote of the TV or amp and the sound went silent. I've unplugged everything and reset the amp. There looks to be two ways to make the connection again.
1. Use HDMI ins on the TV and then output to the amp for sound from a single HDMI out to TV's HDMI in.
2. Have all components plug into the amp HDMI ins and do an output to the TV.

Which is the best way to set it up? Right now I've got the TV taking HDMI inputs and a coax cable linked to the coax in cable on the amp for the sound but I'm not hearing any sound from the amp.

Suggestions?

Thanks
Harry

Could this be from TV remote? As you say it started when remote was pressed.. Perhaps some TV out put setting was changed?

I would use method #2. This way you don't have to mess with the tv input selector. Leave that on HDMI in. As you switch modes on the receiver, it will control the audio you hear and the video you see (on the tv) all in one step.

I have mine setup like your number 2 option. But if my dog stepped on remote, I would be sure Mute didnt get pressed or an input didnt get changed.

Appreciate the help! I'll try #2 for sure. I pressed every combination of possible buttons and nada after it happened.

Maybe I can get the sound back this weekend .

Thanks!

Follow up question:

The amp has a TV/SAT HDMI IN and one HDMI OUT.

The TV has a digital audio output jack only. I'm using the TV's digital audio output jack. I'll plug this digital output cable into the only digital input jack on the amp "COAXIL ASSIGNABLE" and beside this input "IN (CD)".
