After having my A/V receiver repaired, I am attempting to hook my system back up. I live in a small town and my dealer is no longer in the electronics business and cannot provide me with much help. I am attempting to connect:

Dish Network High Def DVR
Outputs:
S-Video
RCA
Digital Audio
DVI
Component

JVC RX-9010 A/V Receiver
Inputs:
RCA
Component
Digital Co-ax
Digital Optical

Ouputs:
Has a digital optical output

JVC AV-36DF74 TV
Inputs:
DVI
Component
RCA

I would like to get the best video possible. I hope this provides enough information. I assumed that I would take both the audio and video signal from the satellite to the AV receiver to the television but this doesn't seem to give me a digital option.

I will also be hooking up a VCR, CD, DVD player but think I can figure that out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Component Video is the highest quality video format in common with all of your devices. You should connect component video from the dvr to the receiver and component video from the receiver to the tv. A dvd player would be connected to the receiver via component as well.

The digital audio (either coax or optical) should be connected from the dvr to the receiver. You have to tell the receiver which digital audio input on the back goes with which source selector; ie if you want to hear the audio from the dvr when you press 'video 1' on the receiver and the digital audio cable is connected to 'optical 1', then you must 'assign' the optical 1 input to the video 1 source. This is simple and should be detailed in the manual.
