I lieu of the popularity of my other 2 drummer thread, I have another trivia question for you all to help me with.

Bands that had a double bass drum setup.

I can only think of Metallica.

lol

Many, many, many double-bass drummers out there.

And many are just using twin pedals (one pedal has a cable or rod connecting it to the beater and drum) and a single bass drum, nowadays.

Carmine Appice is(was) a double-bass god.

Rodney Holmes has some really quick feet. I've seen him several times. He is amazing.

(I'm sure I could post many more here. And I know, you wanted "bands" not drummers.)

That is an outstanding drumming site, btw. Check out all those drummers' videos.

How many double drummer bands with both drummers playing double bass?

A lot less double bass these days and a lot more double pedal.

I used to check out Rodney when he was coming up, doing local gigs in New York - glad to see he's getting so popular.

van halen
rush did regularly

the coolest thing thats making a comeback is a heel toe pedal.
you use 2 so you have a total of 4 beaters.

you just alternate feet heel 1 heel 2 toe 1 toe 2

qaudruplets with the effort of a double.

porcupine tree is the only band that i know uses it currently but it was used a little 5 or 10 years back then went away till recently

here's a few that come to mind:
dream theater, mike portnoy (abuse of the technique, for my taste)
rush, neil peart (especially on vapor trails)
asia, carl palmer (don't know about the other drummers after him)
queen, roger taylor (i suspect it was only for looks)
porcupine tree, can't remember the drummer's name, but quite tasteful IMO
and of course, KISS,, peter criss (the best drummer in the world, according to them, lol) and again, I think his kit had two bass drums but I highly doubt he knew what to do with it, other than look cool.

Nikko Mcbrain of Iron Maiden *sounds* like he uses two bass drums on a lot of songs (check out "Dream of Mirrors" on Brave New World, for instance), but his foot is actually just that fast ;)

Do you mean like Rush and Van Halen?

No, can't think of any.

Louie Bellson is an old-timer from the big band age. His kit always included two bass drums and the man used them!

Let's not forget the Cookie Monster from the Muphets. He could play too. He sounded a lot like Neil.

Oops, you're right. But take a close look at them both. Maybe we have a Clark Kent vs Superman thing going on here.
