I've always just plugged the wire right into the amp. Any hints/tips on connecting with banana plugs - because I am struggling.

What exactly are you struggling with, though?

I crimped the ends down to the wire and slipped the rubber back over the ends and the wire wasnt locked into the plug - it kept sliding out - I gave up and just connected them without the plugs. Does that sacrifice quality?

Seriously, I have no life.

Do you mean you used just the bare wire? If so, that is just fine.
You can solder the wire to the banana plug if need be.

No, no sound quality loss. Banana plugs are just for ease of use.

edit: ninja mtrycrafts beat me to it

Thanks guys - all hooked up. My auto on switch is on and theres a sensitivity knob turned up a bunch but the amp doesnt turn on when my audio sources come on. I have to turn it on manually. Any ideas?

You have an additional amp that doesn't turn on when you power the receiver on? If so you need to plug it into one of the switched power plugs on the back of the receiver and then just push in the power button and leave it on.

I suspect that the Halo A51 will draw far more current than the switched outlet on the receiver is designed to handle. The Onkyo and the Halo have 12v triggers. The best option is to run a mono mini-jack from the Onkyo to the Halo 12v trigger so that the Halo is always on whenever the Onkyo is powered on.

Oh yeah, good point. In that case you'd have to run a remote wire like you said.

I tried the 12v 2.5mm plug it came with - it fit into the halo but it would'nt fit into the onkyo805 12v trigger output

The standard is 3.5mm. If the Halo is using a 2.5mm you just need an adapter that you can buy from Radio Shack.

Man, that adaptor is tough to find. You might have to get the 3.5mm mono cable and get a 3.5mm socket to 2.5mm plug adapter. I found those, but only in England.

The best solution might be to get the 3.5 mm mono cable, cut and splice one end onto the 2.5mm cable. I hate it when manufacturers use oddball connections.

Yeah I wish the auto on feature worked - I turned the sensitivity up all the way and it still doesnt register.
