I've seen other people post links to sites in the past. Why were these modified on me, as I am looking for a particular part. If you would rather me not post the website of the link in a message I could do that. Just didn't know it was a problem.

Please let me know.

Hey Ducker,

It's fine to post links, just looks like something got screwed up in this thread.

Anyway, back to Banana Plugs. Since the links are blown and I am unable to tell which ones you and nibhaz were citing, I would recc. the Dayton Plugs from Partsexpress. They are grey with gold pins and are $6.95 per pak of 4. I have these and they work very well. Never had any problems. $6.95 per cable run is a great deal. These may be the ones nibhaz was talking about. Here is a link, we'll see if it works.

BTW, How those Athenas sounding?

I'm thinking parts**** is a bad word as of late :) <-- I put in the "*"

Shinerman, I posted back in the Newbies forum... I'd love to get more feedback there.
I'd rather not flood the AV/loudspeaker threads with my drivel :)

I was looking at going even cheaper... with something like "GOLD CRIMP-ON BANANA PLUGS" at $3 per cable run. As I won't be changing my configuration much at all.

Or... the " BANANA PLUG BLACK" and " BANANA PLUG RED" at $2.6 a cable run.

I found the ones you pointed out (by just the part # part)
Only problem with those:

In Stock? No, due 5/1/2005

hm, those are nice... and the cost is cool for 20 of them....
a shame I need 24... I suppose I could give them a call and see what the price would be for 24 of them.

Hm, I wonder if banana plugs on the back of my Athena AS-R1's would cause a problem with the speaker laying flush or slightly angled downward, due to the plugs sticking out...

Has anyone had a problem with banana clips sticking too far out when mounting a speaker flush against a wall?

Don't buy the GLS bannanas

I was not very happy with the quality of these plugs at all. They look ok but I found them to be cheap.

It could definitely pose a problem flush mounting. For rears that are mounted, I would probably just go with bare wire. You will probably rarely move them so there is no real need for a banana. The only speakers I use bananas on are my front mains. I move them quite often to clean around the area. I just unplug and move them. I actually have some felt pads on the bottom of the speakers so I can just slide them over on the wood floors. The main place I use the Bananas is on the back of the receiver and the wall plate where I plug into the rear surrounds, kitchen speakers and pool room speakers.

Hm... great ideas... wall plate. much sexier then the alternative method of drilling a hole in the floor :)
Not to mention my electrician (father) would most likely kill me if I did that!!

Hm, So, I still need clips... 6x4, run wire in basement from the wall plate to the back of the room for the surrounds... and I'm guessing a total seperate cable for the subwoofer... No clip on that.

Shinerman, remember where you scored your wall plates? I don't seem to be able to find much at parts express... (and I'm thinking the links are getting filtered out due to the $ex in the middle)

Hm, ok I found a couple on parts express... looks like I might have to get 2 plates.. .a 4 wall plate and a double... A shame I couldn't get a 4 wall plate, and then a double banana with a RCA jack too for the sub...

<edit>

nice that other company has a 6 way:
Binding Post Wall Plate - 6 Posts - GLS Audio

So I'd just need an RCA plate/plug for the sub...

This is where I got mine. You can choose one of the ones listed or they can build you a custom plate with whatever inputs you need. Not bad prices and the quality seems to be really good. I got the soldering terminals on the back of mine and in hindsight I probably would have gone with binding post on the back of the plate instead. It was a pain soldering all those wires.

How so? the look rather good... and if I'm buying 24 of them the price is right... vs paying over $2 per plug... Sure I'll get high quality plugs if a pay over $2 a plug.. but they are just plugs... I'd rather use straight wire if it's going to cost me over $7 per wire.

How does the "built-in" mount on the AS-R1's work Ducker?

I have a pair of the athena AS-R1's but I used the optional "micro-mount" to mount mine, using them as surrounds on the side. Does the built in mount cause the speakers to tilt downwards at all? I might remount mine and I was wondering.

I would use bare wire, have you tried the bananas that have the wire hole on the side of the plug? The Monster QuickLocks are very small but the wire inserts in through the back of the plug, they might work if your speaker cable is flexable and can be bent 90 degrees.

Maybe I should have found this reply before buying the GLS banana clips. I purchased the better clips they offer with the locking ends. I found that the plugs are somewhat inconsistent; some fit flush when you plug them in, some don't go all the way. And try tightening them when they are sitting close together on the back of a receiver, very difficult.

How good is the contact that is made when the wire is tightened with the set screw? How much of the wire is actually in contact with the plug?

Can someone explain what a compression fitting is? How is the wire sitting inside the clip? Does it then tighten down like a plumbing type compression fitting?

I have also used the screw on type from Monster. At least you know that the entire end is in contact on the inside. They can loosen up but you can use heat shrink tubing to hold better.

I can't really solder since some of my wires are coming out of the wall and I don't have the legnth to do this.

Well, after all that, I am probably stuck with the GLS plugs since I already bought them. Not worth returning with all the S&H costs. I have really got burnt with cables and connectors by buying stuff without actually seeing them first. Even reading on these forums, people have different opinions and not always the right one, or one that I am happy with when I actually see the product. Making mistakes always cost me $.

I just bought 14 pairs of banana plugs on ebay. Ultralink UL-0521 (??) for $60US after shipping. That's 28 plugs or 2.20 per plug.

http://www.ultralinkcables.com/index2.html

They're in the mail so I can't really say whether or not the plugs are a good deal. But the reading I did on Ultralink in general was positive and scientific.
