bad picture quality with 780p plasma ps3 hdmi 1.3 cable and blu-ray disc

i just got my ps3 2 weeks ago and yesterday i got my ironman blu-ray disk..well i hooked up my ps3 then my hdmi 1.3 cable to the ps3 and tv. i put the disk in and started to watch the blu-ray..i then came to notice that the blu ray looked like a normall dvd on my 720p plasma..my ps3 said it was puting out 1080i..i need help with this cause im new to this kind of stuff and help would be much appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

From my reading on the web, you can set the output on the PS3 to 720p. I'd recommend giving that a try to see if that works any better for you. There were some comments that a 1080i output to a TV that couldn't do 1080i would be downconverted to 480 by the PS3, but those were from early 2007 and I don't know if that's true for the more recent PS3s.

well my tv supports 1080i so idk what the porblem is..i set my ps3 to 720p and it looks the same..i went to settings to make sure the ps3 was set to 1080i and not 480p...and when i played it it looked like a normall dvd..the picture was not crisp at all..maybe my settings are off.would you happen to knoe how to configure the settings

Can the plasma take a 1080p signal through the HDMI? For example my panny plasma is 768p but takes the 1080p signal from my PS3.

no the max res is 1080i with hdmi....and i sit 6 feet away from my tv

How does the picture look from 12 ft away? 6 ft for that screen and 720 is too close and perhaps that is the reason.

No man, I can get to about the 2ft mark with my 720p plasma when watching A BD and it looks good.
