Bad channel on Marantz receiver

I have a Marantz SR-5200 6.1 receiver that has a bad front right channel. It does produce sound, but is very quiet, and it has lots of scratchy static in it. It reminds me of sound being played through the worst blown flea market speaker you have ever heard (which is certainly NOT the case!).

It happens all the time: I've tried pure direct mode, DD, DTS, Stereo. I've used all the digital and analog inputs. I've even used the preamp outs to a seperate amp. The noise is always there.

I'm certain this can be fixed, but I have no idea if I am up to the task, or even where to start. Any ideas?

Start with a new patch (speaker wire) and ascertain that the connections are good and that there are no shorts. If the problem persists, exchange speakers so as to ascertain that it is not a speaker problem. Beyond that, since you have "no idea where to start", any internal problems (bad jack, blown amplifier, etc.) would have to be brought in to a shop or sent to Marantz for repairs.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, but I've already tried all that. I'm certain it is an internal problem. I opened the case today and was unable to spot any loose connections or damaged caps. So unless anyone has another idea, I'll have to check with the local shop.
