Bad albums by good bands

Hearing the travesty that is Love Beach by ELP got me to wondering what other examples of really bad albums by otherwise good bands are out there. Two others that I could think of offhand were Hot Space by Queen and Kilroy was Here by Styx. (Her Majesties Satanic Request is often cited as a bad Stones album, but I actually like it.)

"Californication", by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I love this band, and every cd. But, this one is not "Right On Time."

worst ones from good ones

Mick Jagger solo albums....sound very expensive ....boring
the WHO..who are you.....keith was way too wasted..actually kicked out of the band...and they used some studio drummers....the who wihout keith moon in the 70's boring.
David Bowie...Tonight..shhhhh,zzzzzzzzzz
Rolling Stones....Dirty work (to listen too)
RUSH..roll the bones...geddy kinda rappin???
YES...Union and Big Generator....yuck
the Doors...American Prayer...after jim died they still put out a record? and it sucked??? who would've guessed?
Eric Clapton....August and Journeyman... somthing about the 80's that wrecked alot of musicians albums......that super loud fake snare sound for one. sounds okay on a dance album but not on , springsteen, seger, clapton etc.
lots of seventies artists fell prey to its ugly sound in the eighties.

Good list, Frog. I especially agree with Big Generator. How did Yes:eek: go from classics like Starship Trooper and Heart of the Sunrise to a POS like Owner of a Lonely Heart?

I don't know, I like Owner of a Lonely Heart better than Starship Troopers. Changes is the best 'modern' Yes song, IMO.

My god, do you also like We Built this City better than Somebody to Love?
No, but what if I did? I like Jane and Stranger better than Don't Lose Any Sleep (which you'd probably put in the same calss as We Built This City) but so what? Bands change over time.

I thought that Lonely Heart was from Big Generator. I guess I didn't realize they had made more than one album of crappy mainstream techno-pop having nothing to do with the great progressive rock band called Yes.

Those guys use rap. Even a small amount of rap can completely destroy an otherwise decent album. ("One bad apple spoils the barrel.")

Anything Genisis after Peter Gabriel left

*shudders* And if hear "In The Air Tonight" again, i'm gonna go insane.

Other albums I thought sucked are;

The Clash "Sandanista"
Robert Plants "Now & Zen"

The post-Gabriel albums A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering both sounded like real Genesis to me (in fact, TotT includes Dance on a Volcano and Los Endos, two of their best pieces.) It was from And then there were Three on that they took a nosedive. Abacab was rock-bottom, and they haven't improved much since.
