Back Rear Height Speakers?

Hello,
My listening location is a couch that is about eight inches from a large window that is covered by very heavy and thick canvas drapes, I was thinking to mount two back speakers above the window and drapes which would put the speakers very close to ceiling and angle them downward. I know this is feasible but would this approach add any significant rear channel effects that would be audible or am I wasting my time? Would I be better served to add front height speakers or do the above mentioned rear surrounds? Thanks guys for your time.

Of your two thoughts, mounting the speakers in the rear above the drapes and windows sounds like the best way to go. The front height idea never turned me on when I heard it demonstrated.

Rear Height or Front Heigt

Front Height speaker will work better. But, the height speaker should be a good match for the front mains. Many people do not adhere to this and the results are not favorable. The front height speakers extended your towers or main speakers. The front stage is more important than the rear stage. This also holds true for listening to music in surround mode. Front Height speakers should be at least 3 ft. directly above mains. The first time I tried front height's, I used some leftover satellite speakers and never could tell if they were working. The I got some matching speaker to my towers and now I use the height speakers the majority of the time. Front height speakers supercharge your 5.1 system by running seven speakers at once.

Majority of movies are 5.1. The back(rear speakers) or front height speakers are just sounds processed and output by your receiver from the original movie track. I have front heights, but it is mainly a placebo effect vice actually expanding my 5.1 system. But it's cool to say you have them.:D

My recommendations for speaker mounts would be these. Others here can vouch for them as well. I use them and have my quite close to the ceiling and angled down towards the listener position.
