I'm sorry I forgot to get back to you. I had a nagging feeling I had forgotten something and went back through my posts.
B & W started from humble beginnings as a dealer and repair shop in the Sussex coastal town of
Worthing.
Here is his
obituary written by John Gilbert.
Right away John Bowers moved the company into the front rank, a position it has never lost. It is not by chance their speakers grace the finest studios in the world, including Abbey Road.
One of my best friends has a pair of these.
The 800 D.
These are fairly pricey speakers, but far from the priciest. I have heard more expensive speakers, but none that come close to these. I regard them as the finest speakers I know of, you can go to a dealer and purchase.
The whole 800 range is outstanding and has a consistent neutral well balanced sound though out the range.
The other ranges such as the CM range are also very good speakers.
In fact I was auditioning B & W speakers Monday out of interest. In my view the 600 range has significant problems, and is well due for a major make over. I hope it will get it.
Basically B & W set the bar for all of us aspiring designers to get over. It is set very high.
