B&W DM7 loudspeaker problem

Hello,

This is my first post on this board and I have very little knowledge about speakers. Hope my post is not too silly... I have a pair of old B&W DM 7 loudspeakers (believe they were manyfactured in 1979...) and until a few years ago they were quite satisfactory for that class of loudspeakers at least. Recently one speaker started to develop distortion and noise when I listen to music at any volume level: more power equals more noise. Things started slowly, hardly noticeable at first and worsened with time so this loudspeaker can't be used anymore. These loudspeakers were never abused, actually I use them seldom. There is no crack, dent or chip on the surrounding material, foam, cone of the woofer. Everything appears normal. The problem is the woofer itself: I swapped the two woofers and the noise followed the sick one... The other loudspeaker is still perfect. What is the problem? Is there a way to fix it? Yes, I know, it is probably time to upgrade for a more modern and better system... Thanks for any input and suggestions.

You can try buy a replacement driver. B&W carry replacement parts for years after a model is out of production. I don't know at what cost though... it might even be worthwhile getting in touch with B&W in the UK. It could work out cheaper that way.

I once inquired about a replacement tweeter for my B&W DM603's - and the cost was really reasonable. Admittedly, those are fairly modern by comparison, but it's worth a try.

Hi, I have repair a pair of dm7.If you bypass the fuse holder with a cable you have a chance to fixe your problem. because after 25 years the spring inside is completely finish and contact is not really good. I have fixed my problem with this solution.
