My friend has a pair of these DM600 I believe made in 1988. They appear to be in good shape and was looking at buying them for about $70. Is this to much for a pair of speakers almost 17yrs old? Also would these speakers keep up with the latest in dvd audio? I was thinking of buying them for my rear surround or maybe a Zone 2 speaker.

the best thing to do is look at the rubber or foam in the surrounds and dust caps. if those are in good shape, and you like the sound quality, it's a good buy.

if the surrounds have dry-rotted but you're handy with a knife and glue, you might look here for some re-building supplies www.wooferrepair.com

But are they so old, that their not worth buying? Can they keep up with todays audio?DVD's?

if your speakers could play Eric Clapton's guitar and Johnny Mathis's vocal stuff, I'd imagine Shania Twain, Snoop Dogg, and George Lucas are not much of a challenge.... :)
