I'm looking to spend about £1000 on a new set of stereo speakers early next year.

I currently have a bi-amped Cambridge Azur system running a pair of Kef Coda70's. Great as the speakers are: I can do better.
My shortlist only consists of a pair of B&W 705's at the moment.

are they worth getting?

On the basis of one fairly brief audition, I have to say they are one of the nicest sounding speakers at that price point that I've heard. To me they sounded very neutral with a solid mid-range, crystal clear highs and excellent imaging. Also, I found them aesthetically gorgeous. At $1,500 U.S., they were a little out of my price so I went with Paradigm Reference Studio 20's -- not quite as nice, but almost half the price.

I had the same impressions.

They competed well with my Ohm Micros (which says a LOT), and even though I wouldn't have minded paying more for the 705s, the Ohms fit better into my space.
