Hy everyone,
I planning to buy a pair of 685's and what I'm concern about is how does they sound generaly and how does it sound bass component of the speakers.I'm listening various types of music, from pop, rock, blues, rythm and blues, soul to acid jazz, trip hop, electronic music like Thievery Co.,St.Germain...Actaully this is my first time to finaly can afford it to myself a good hi-fi.Dimensions of my living room is around 20sq.met.Also which ampl. you can suggest for above speakers to give a great sound, have been told that Kandy III is a great solution for them and which cd player is great for those combination.I'm not experienced too much with quality hi-fi but I'm a huge fan of a "good sound" and actually now is the time for me to enter in a great "world of sound".

I will guess that since you are measuring your space in meters, that you are not in the U.S.A. Depending on where you are, that might affect the availablility of certain amps or players or alter the budget somewhat. But here goes:

What is the total budget vs. the cost of those speakers? Is this system always going to be 2 channel or will it be made into home theater at some point? What brands are available to you locally?

Why on earth are you planning to buy them if you haven't heard them yourself? IMO they are great speakers, but speakers are very subjective, and I would never consider buying anything without auditioning first.

This is true my friend. Even with my severely limited experience in auditioning speakers, I can say that you may find your tastes differing a lot from those of others.

If you haven't gone around listening to speakers (with the intention of distinguishing between them) before, it may sound like a difficult proposition. You may feel tempted to just take someone else's opinion and buy a pair. I did too. But you will be more satisfied if you pick them out with the aid of your own ears.

Note: I haven't picked mine yet, but already I find that I have strong preferences.

I just my 685 about a mouth ago. They were kind of bright at first but some tuning with my denon4306 fixed that. Good bass for this size speaker and i recommend about 100watts per channel for this babies.

I just auditioned the B&W 685 over the weekend along side the Revel Concerta M12. I thought that the B&W was much brighter and more detailed than the revel. Both had very impressive bass response powered by a NAD stereo receiver. I preferred the sound of the B&W over the more laid back sounding Revel, but that is just preference. They might not be the best bet for a lively room. IMHO, both sounded very nice.

Many thanks in advance Joe!
