I listened to B&W 604s ($599 each) and Paradigm Monitor 11s ($479 each) today (they were both on sale with about $100 off normal) using a bluegrass cd Blue Highway - Still Climbing Mountains and I noticed with the 604s you could hear the whole banjo note texture where with the Monitor 11 the top part was there but the rest was missing. I was really impressed with the 604s.

I wonder if the 604s will handle earsplitting levels of heavy metal though. I do that on occasion, well every other day maybe. That is why I am still considering the Klipsch Rf-5.

Beginning to love the 604's

Larry,

I just purchased a pair of the 604's the other week (for a little over $600 each) and I love them. I was just cranking out some grunge the other day and sounded really good. Actually, almost had a flashback (Alice in Chains, STP, Soundgarden and original Pearl Jam). Yesterday I was jamming old Metallica and some Godsmack. They still sounded really good. I cranked it to about -20 on the Yami 1400 and I was really able to feel it - small room. I hate to admit it but I even cranked up Enigma. The chanting in the background is definitely cool.

Just out of curiosity, where are you thinking of purchasing yours and for how much? I purchased mine from Myer Emco and they have a 60 day price match.

If you have limited room for placement the 604's are only front ported so you can stick them up against a wall. Mine are in a 12x15x8 room with an adjoining open kitchen which is a little bit larger than the family room.

There is a dealer here in Sioux City Pflanz that has them on sale for $600 each but normal price is $700 each. And the LCR600 center is $450 I think.
I have a small room too - 10 feet from each speaker to the middle of the couch and 7 feet to the tv.
I have a pair of Radio Shack PA speakers with a 15 and a horn for mains and I crank Kings X Please Come Home Mr. Bulbous, and Type O Negative October Rust to -10 with my yamaha 1500 and you can really feel it. I have Bose 301s for the surrounds and Advent Marbl for surround backs and a JBL sub. I don't have a center yet, was waiting till I picked out my mains. I really like the 7-channel stereo feature on the 1500.

Bose 301's huh, that's another flashback to '88 or '89. We also used the AR's and JBL bookshelf's.

I tried to get my dealer to come down lower in price but he wouldn't budge  . But, he did give me a 6 month old demo LCR6s2 for $99 :D . It was a little scratched but beats paying $400+.

I've been listening to Sirius Hard Attack channel through Dish a little bit and it still seams to handle it pretty well. Next weekend I still might make the drive to just audition the Paradigm 11's.

Dancing on the Grills

As a matter of fact, when cranking the heavy base laiden tunes the dog hair that is already stuck to the grill gets bounced off and then sucked back on by the winter static electricity. Kinda looks like it is dancing on the grill.

You can't go wrong the 604's. I auditioned numerous speakers(at home) with the exception of Martin Logan Aeons. That's what I bought. However, I'm still going to purchase the 604's. After listening to Tannoy, Paradigm, PSB(nice speaker), Totem, KEF, Rocket, just to name a few, the 604's IMO sounded the best.
